Bethesda’s going to space as the studio gears up for its next huge open world RPG in the form of Starfield.
While the Fallout and Elder Scrolls developer is no stranger to a sprawling RPG, this will be the studio’s first new IP in the genre for 25 years. So naturally, there’s a lot of attention on the game.
With that in mind, we’ve rounded up the pertinent information to pass onto you. Here’s what we know about Starfield so far.
Starfield – predicted release date
Though Starfield had been referenced and mentioned plenty of times prior, it was 2021 before it was formally revealed as more than just a title and broad concept.
During the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2021, the game was given an introductory trailer and pegged for a 2022 release. Specifically in the traditional Bethesda spot of November 11 of that year.
However, this date wouldn’t hold out. Back in May, the studio made the decision to delay both it and publisher stablemate Redfall to “the first half of 2023“.
It will be an Xbox and PC exclusive, now that the former own Bethesda parent company, Zenimax. It will also be available on Day One via Xbox Game Pass.
Starfield – story length, gameplay and more
Since then, Bethesda and Xbox have been slowly drip feeding more details on the game at subsequent events. They included a meaty gameplay video during this year’s Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, a year removed from its original reveal.
There, director Todd Howard showcased some gameplay from the early part of the game. Similar to its other RPGs, you’ll step out from your ship onto a new land and given carte blanche to explore.
However, while you’ll first step onto the moon of Kreet, that won’t be your only destination. Howard teased that there’d be a whopping 1000 planets over 100 systems to explore in the game.
As for how many of these will be required for the main story, it seems a fair chunk of them. In a follow-up interview, Howard claimed there’d be about 30-40 hours of gameplay within.
We’ll add more information on Starfield as and when we get it.
