Stardew Valley, the competitor to Harvest Moon and long-running indie title that’s available on most platforms, is getting an update on Android that adds music, fishing ponds and more. ConcernedApe has done a fantastic job supporting the title so far and there are major updates planned for the game’s four year anniversary.
Stardew Valley was originally released for Windows in 2016 and served as a new take on the Harvest Moon formula. Its popularity skyrocketed since then and it has received multiple updates including a console version, a multiplayer expansion, and new events.
The title is available now on Android devices for $7.99, which isn’t a bad price for those looking to spend hundreds of hours farming in a pixelated wonderland. The new update includes entirely new music, fishing ponds for the experienced angler, and brand new events. Considering the game has been supported since launch and keeps getting new features with each update, it’s as good a time as any to jump on-board.
While Harvest Moon brought the farming/life simulator into the forefront many years ago, Stardew Valley introduced realistic characters and motivations, hundreds of in-game years worth of content, and a pixelated art style that oozes charm. It can be argued that titles such as Graveyard Keeper, My Time at Portia and Ooblets wouldn’t be possible without the success of this title.
Stardew Valley also took inspirations from Rune Factory, the game that itself took inspiration from the Harvest Moon series and paired it with basic combat and monster farming.
As a result, Stardew Valley features a mine that’s a hundred levels deep filled with creatures to slay, a crafting system, fishing, and tons of events.
Stardew Valley was created by one person, Eric Barone, who worked tirelessly seven days a week, 10-12 hours a day, to bring his creation to light. There’s a reason the title has stayed around as long as it has, and the added addition of new music and new ways to fish will keep this title feeling fresh for years to come.
