If you’ve spent any time playing Stardew Valley, then you’ve likely run across Penny. Whether you found her helping the local kids or reading under a tree, you’ve probably thought about romancing this sweet character. Penny is even one of the most popular bachelorettes among the game’s players. You may be wondering just what is so special about this reserved woman and just how to romance her. As it turns out, Penny is one of the kindest characters in town and has several qualities that set her apart from the other partners which make her the best. Keep reading below to learn ten reasons why Penny is the best bachelorette.

10 She Loves Reading

Right off the bat, you will notice that Penny seems to spend most of her free time reading. As mentioned above, you can often find her sitting under a tree in town, taking in a book. Even when she finally marries you, she sets up a nice spot outback that she can read in during the day. Even most of her dialogue on rainy days is geared towards letting you know that she is looking forward to curling up with a good book.

If you like to read yourself and love bookworms as much as we do, then you should get to know Penny.

9 She Is Good With Kids

Another huge fact that sticks out about Penny is how good she is with kids. She doesn’t just take care of a sibling-like Shane, though; she literally teaches the children in town. You can often find her at the library sitting with Jas and Vincent in order to help them improve in their studies. She will even take them on small field trips from time to time to help break up the lessons.

The parents even trust her enough to escort them throughout the town, which is a wonderful sign that she will be a responsible parent.

8 She Prefers Healthy Food

When you begin to look into most of the NPC’s love, you will find things like pizza, chocolate cake, and tarts. Penny, on the other hand, though seems only to want to ingest healthy meals. One of her loves is a poppy seed muffin and root platter. The root platter especially is a dish made to help give you a healthy boost of energy while you’re in the mines.

Once you marry Penny, she will occasionally make comments about you eating healthy, showing she cares about both her body and yours.

7 She Wants to Help Everyone

During one of her first heart events, you will walk into town to find George going to get his mail. Sadly, the mailman put it a bit too far back in the mailbox. When Penny sees George struggling in his wheelchair, she immediately goes over and gets the letter for him. This angers George a bit, but you get to talk to Penny afterward and learn that she really hates seeing people struggle.

Even Maru, who is the town Nurse, doesn’t go as out of her way to take care of the town’s residents.

6 She Supports Her Mom

If you’ve met Pam, then it was probably at the town saloon where she gets completely wasted every night. It can’t be easy having a mom that is so keen on getting drunk night after night. Even with Pam’s glaring problems, Penny very obviously loves her mom and does her best to keep the trailer in order. You even walk in on her cleaning everything up to help make her mom’s living space a bit nicer.

This is wonderful to see as many people would be put off or even resent their mom for becoming a heavy alcoholic, but Penny understands her struggles.

5 She Loves to Experiment

Not only is she kind and thoughtful, but she also doesn’t mind going out of her way to create her own food. During one of her heart scenes, you walk into Pam’s trailer to find Penny cooking. As it turns out, she is making a new dish that was inspired by you and needs you to taste it. You find out the dish tastes rather terrible, but even if you tell her, she will continue to make weird food even after you’re married.

It’s great to have a partner who can take constructive criticism and keep trying to build on it, even if it involves horrible tasting food.

4 She Loves to go on Picnics

If you have gotten Penny’s heart up and wander into the forest, then a scene may trigger where she has taken the kids on a picnic. She invites you to talk to them about farming and then lets you stay with them to enjoy some food. While picnics are a simple type of date, the fact that she is happy just reading a book on a blanket while snacking on sandwiches is pretty cute.

This also lets you know that Penny isn’t a hard to please partner and will be happy with even simpler dates that are more laid back.

3 She Loves the Spa

When you finally get Penny to ten hearts, you will receive a letter in the mail asking you to join her at the spa in the mountains. When you go, you will get in your bathing suit and go soak in the water with Penny. As you both relax in the middle of the pool, she will finally confess that she has feelings for you. While this isn’t an out of town date like many other NPCs, it feels mature and well thought out.

After you’re married, she will even tell you how wonderful the memory of the night was to her, which is great considering that the spa is another easy date.

2 She Likes to Decorate

In her new fourteen heart event, Penny will come to you and begin questioning you about your preference in decorations. You will need to answer each of her questions and then go to sleep for the day to trigger the second half of the event. Once you wake up, your house will be decorated just like you described to Penny on the previous day. As it turns out, she worked from the time you went to sleep to get everything ready.

Since most farmers don’t go to sleep to 2 am, she must have been up pretty late just to try and surprise you with this home makeover.

1 She Keeps Her Job

One of the most striking about Penny is the fact that she decides to keep her job after she’s married. She is one of the few partners that decide to work instead of letting you make all the profits. She even keeps her same work schedule and will diligently go into town to pick up the kids and help them with their lessons. This shows a high level of dedication as you both could easily live off of the farm’s income.

You have to be proud of a partner who continues to work because they enjoy helping the children they teach.
