Star Wars: The Force Awakens has become the fifth film in history to earn more than $1 billion at the foreign box office (outside the US), reports Variety.
Episode 7 made $47.3 million outside the US this weekend, helping the movie surpass the oversees box office of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2, with Jurassic World’s $1.02 billion firmly in its sights. Next in line will be Furious 7’s $1.16 billion, helped hugely by its mammoth $400 million in China. The film is, however, some way from reaching the heights of Titanic’s $1.53 billion and Avatar’s $2.03 billion.
Worldwide The Force Awakens has made $1.86 billion, trailing only Titanic at $2.19 billion and Avatar with $2.78 billion. Titanic’s haul may be achievable, but we can’t see Avatar being caught.
