A pop culture powerhouse, Star Wars is one of the most successful film franchises of all time. In addition to movies, the series has invaded other mediums, producing hundreds of toys and books. Perhaps the most successful of the franchise’s auxiliary forms has been video games. While we have seen many fantastic Star Wars games such as Jedi Fallen Order and the original Battlefront, Star Wars is no stranger to duds. At times, we seem to be made to suffer. It’s our lot in life.
Because so many of the Star Wars mobile games are no longer available, even though several would have made this list, we have omitted them from this collection of intergalactic scum. Whenever you are looking for a new game, these are not the video games you are looking for.
10 Star Wars Battlefront- PC (72)
Battlefront’s strengths lie solely in its online multiplayer mode and immersion in the beloved universe. Many fans were shocked by the decision to omit a campaign or any other meaningful single-player experience from the blockbuster return of the Star Wars shooter.
As fans found out, your eyes can deceive you; don’t trust them. The aesthetics of the game were stellar and faithful to the franchise, but the game just didn’t have much else going for it. Despite EA’s shooter expertise from the similarly named Battlefield franchise, the mechanics were only mediocre and gameplay forgettable.
9 Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens- PC (72)
To commemorate the continuation of the Star Wars movie saga, Lego released a new game to accompany the movie’s arrival. Lego Star Wars: The Force Awakens did not reinvent the formula for the Lego games. The game is mindless fun that is best shared with others.
The main criticism of this game for most players is the difficulty level. Because the Lego games are developed with children in mind, adult gamers who don’t enjoy the game with younger players may not enjoy it very much at all. Even with these shortcomings, however, it is not an awful addition to the Lego Star Wars gaming library.
8 Star Wars Pinball- 3DS (68)
Star Wars Pinball on the 3DS distinguishes itself from other games on this list by the habitual comparing of the downloadable to the Wii U version. While most games inspired by the Star Wars franchise are released on multiple platforms, almost every critic review listed on Metacritic compares it to its sibling Nintendo console.
If you happen to own a Wii U and decide to try this game, you will probably be getting a better experience. But this edition is not a problem if you don’t look at the Wii U version.
7 Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures- PC (65)
Considering that Clone Wars Adventures was free for gamers to play, the now-extinct MMO did not need to clear a high bar in order to be worth checking out for Star Wars fanatics and children. The platform launched with a solid collection of mini-games for players and had an optional subscription.
The game was criticized for blocking too much behind paywalls. While most of the launch mini-games were available in part to all players, they often restricted the difficulty or set level caps. The Force will be with you, always; the fact that this game is not with you is hardly a loss.
6 Star Wars Battlefront II- PC (65)
Who is the more foolish: the fool or the one who follows him? After the disappointingly shallow experience of the first edition of the Battlefront reboot, fans were hopeful that the return of the campaign and the probable improvements to the multiplayer would make this sequel a worthy successor to the original Battlefront games.
EA ultimately produced a forgettable campaign and a multiplayer experience that was reliant on microtransactions for meaningful progression. Fans predictably responded negatively, bombing the user reviews of the game to a mere 1.3 out of ten.
5 Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast- Switch (65)
Originally available for PC, Xbox, and GameCube, Jedi Outcast was re-released for the PS4 and Nintendo Switch in 2019. Unfortunately, the force is not strong with the fresh ports.
While Kyle Katarn’s journey was a great game in 2002, the gameplay has aged poorly and the graphics are not adequately improved. The story and combat are certainly the selling points for this game. If you didn’t pick this up a long, long time ago and have the patience necessary for a slow start, it may still be worth the picking up.
4 Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars- PSP (63)
The Lego games are known for their humor and ingenious use of licensed properties to create entertaining products for fans of some of the most storied franchises in history. Lego Star Wars was one of their first big successes using its unique formula. Unfortunately, the PSP version of The Clone Wars failed to capture the same magic that made the previous games so fun.
While Lego Star Wars III was still a fun game on the consoles, the version made for the PSP (and to a lesser extent, the 3DS), just didn’t do it for many gamers. While console size matters not when it comes to the potential for fantastic games, this one was a disappointment.
3 Kinect Star Wars- Xbox 360 (55)
Kinect Star Wars had the potential to be one of the killer apps for the Kinect platform. By incorporating one of the most popular franchises in the world with high potential for fun movements, such as swinging a lightsaber or using the Force, Kinect Star Wars could have been a game that cemented the Kinect as an essential device.
Unfortunately, the developers of this game made little more than a compilation of minigames. While they are not necessarily poor, fans expect more. You’ll look clumsy and stupid attempting to use the imperfect Kinect controls for this game.
2 Angry Birds Star Wars- PS4 (47)
After the massive success of the Angry Birds franchise, the creators of the hit phone game managed to get the license for the release of crossover with Star Wars. While the mobile version of the game was a highly rated 88 on Metacritic, console versions just couldn’t stay on target.
While touchscreens were the ideal platform for the puzzle sensation, the experience failed to port successfully to consoles. While the Kinect enabled Xbox systems scored slightly better, the fun just couldn’t translate to the other systems.
