Square Enix has announced that DONTNOD’s Life is Strange 2 will be getting two physical edition packages in the near future. Releasing on December 3, 2019, in the UK and February 4, 2020, in the US, players will have the chance to own all five episodes of the teen drama series on a disc for collecting purposes. Both bundles will be available for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
The standard edition bundle will retail for $39.99 and include the main game alongside its prequel, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. You’ll also find some patches for Arcadia Bay, the game’s main setting, and three art cards. For some odd reason, episode five will be included as a digital download, but the rest of the episodes will be on-disc.
The “Collector’s Edition” package will be a Square Enix Store exclusive and is retailing for $69.99. It will have all of the contents of the standard edition as well as the game’s soundtrack on vinyl, a 32-page hardcover artbook, a presentation collector’s box, and figures of protagonists Sean and Daniel. This edition, as well, will have episode five provided via a download code.
It’s a little disappointing that the entire game won’t be accessible from the disc, but this package seems like a great get for fans of DONTNOD’s quirky adventure game. That it includes the prequel game is a nice touch, even if it is freely available on every platform. I’m guessing the reason for episode five’s exclusion comes down to its release date, which is planned for December 3. Since the UK bundles will be releasing that day, Square Enix was likely unable to include it in the package.
If you don’t have that much interest in owning a physical version, Life is Strange 2 is currently available on Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers will be able to play all presently released episodes and will get instant access to episode five in December. Maybe you’ll fall in love so much that you’ll want this bundle, which is probably what Square Enix is banking on.
