Sony expects to sell more PS4 consoles this year than it had previously forecast, raising projections for the current financial year from 16.5 million units to 17.5 million units.

The increased projection means that Sony expects to sell 10.5 million units between now and the end of March, with 7 million units already sold during this financial year.

The new figures were revealed during the company’s Q2 earnings report earlier today, where it confirmed that 4m PS4 consoles had been sold between July 1 and September 30, 2015, up on the 3.3m units sold during the same period last year.

It’s also the second time Sony has raised its expectations for PS4 this year, having initially projected to sell 16m during FY15. In comparison, 14.8 million consoles were sold during FY2014.

Total PS4 hardware sales now stand at 29.3 million.
