Regardless of whether you own a PS4 or Xbox One, 2015 is shaping up to be a pretty amazing year for games. Both Sony and Microsoft, however, claim that their console has the best exclusives – and they can’t both be right, can they?
According to Microsoft, Xbox One will be “the only place” players will get to experience Halo 5: Guardians, Forza Motorsport 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider this year, highlighting the console as being the home to “the best exclusives and biggest blockbusters”.
Sony, meanwhile, claims to have “an unrivalled library of exclusive titles out now and coming soon including Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Now [sic] Man’s Sky and many more, plus in-game content that you won’t find anywhere else for blockbuster games like Batman: Arkham Knight and Destiny”.
All of that, it says, means PS4 “really is the best place to play”.
But who do you agree with? Well, so far this year Sony has released two major PS4 exclusives in Bloodborne and The Order: 1886, but its end-of-year slate may struggle to match up with some of Microsoft’s massive releases.
Sony does, in fact, have three of the highest-scoring exclusives so far this generation, with The Last of Us Remastered, Bloodborne and Flower all earning a 90+ Metacritic rating. Microsoft’s highest-scoring exclusive, meanwhile, is Ori and the Blind Forest, which grabbed an 88 Metacritic rating upon its release earlier this year. Titanfall lags slightly behind at 86.
But could that all change with Halo 5, Forza 6 and Rise of the Tomb Raider, or will Until Dawn, Tearaway Unfolded and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection continue Sony’s high-scoring streak?
Whichever side you sit, both consoles could well be worth a look in later this year – even if the jury may still be out on which one has the best exclusives.
