The Sims 4 finally has the configurable staircases Simmers have wanted for some time. But if there’s one thing that’s true about Sims fans, it’s that they’ll always crave more content. And when EA can’t keep up with those demands, modders within the community step in to get the job done instead.
So while EA has provided Simmers with the configurable staircases they need, some of the actual design options still don’t fit some players’ fancies. The staircase may be just about the least important thing in the world to some Simmers, but others who spend their time in the game building rather than playing in Live Mode may think otherwise! Here are some of the best custom content staircases (and appliances) to grab for your next build.
Updated November 28th, 2020, By Helen Ashcroft: With the release of The Sims 4: Snowy Escape, Simmers now have even more options to create their very own custom staircases, thanks to the free update that gave us platforms. However, that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement.
Likewise, kitchens, and especially kitchen appliances are still very much lacking. While there is now a brand new kitchen counter, island, and set of appliances, overall kitchens are still sparse.
Luckily, the mod and CC community are here to help as always. We’ve taken a look through the best staircases and appliances we can find to bring you even more choices for custom staircases and kitchen appliances that really add a unique touch to your game.
16 Kitchen Narissa By Buff Summ
If you want your appliances to stand out more then Kitchen Narissa by Buff Summ may be a perfect choice. Not only does it contain some stylish appliances but it also offers a range of swatches from neutral to neon.
The set includes the fridge, unique cooker hood, and some stoves, as well as several cabinets including Maxis Match and Alpha variations. The additions on the cabinet doors really help this set feel unique.
15 Palladium Home Library By Wondymoon
We have ladders in the game but something we’d love to see and don’t have are bookcase ladders. They are such a unique item and work well for both home reading rooms and libraries.
This Palladium Home Library set by Wondymoon helps brings those dreams into our game with this beautiful bookcase and ladder. You can also download the chairs, console, and cushions along with other matching items to create a cozy corner in any home.
14 Kitchen Country By Shino & KCR
This Kitchen Country set by Shino and KCR includes the most unique custom content stove we’ve seen. It has a built-in backsplash and eye level grill, something that doesn’t exist in the regular game.
The quirky cooker comes with a set that includes a built-in fridge, sink, counters, islands, wall cupboards, shelves, and more. There are several color swatches including a range of wood tones.
13 Industrial U Stairs by MXIMS
MXIMS is well-known among The Sims community as a quality CC creator, so it comes as no surprise that this decorative staircase is one of their creations. Don’t expect your Sims to be able to use these stairs to get to the next level of their home, as they’re only decorative—but that doesn’t make them useless.
You can use them in aesthetic builds or stories with a set of functional stairs out of sight. Turn your Sim’s home into a television set or the setting for a photoshoot! The point is, your next build in The Sims doesn’t have to look the same as everybody else’s.
12 Smeg Fridge & Oven by KKB
Smeg is the leading real-world brand in modern retro kitchen design. It’s no wonder a talented custom content creator has taken it upon themselves to add a virtual version for Sims to enjoy as much as people do.
There are two types of refrigerators in this pack and two types of ovens. Each of them comes in 15 different color swatches, which gives builders plenty of options to mix and match some of the most aesthetically-pleasing kitchen appliances on the market (and in CC) today. What colors are you painting your kitchen once you get your hands on these?
11 Spiral Staircase Shelf By Severinka
We know it’s technically a shelf but since most of these staircases are decorative, why not have them also be functional? Severinka’s Victoria kids room contains some beautiful furniture including this spiral staircase shelf.
You can place objects onto each step making it both elegant and functional and it fits perfectly against this wardrobe. There’s also a shelf facing the other way so you can make it fit into different room configurations.
10 Simple Kitchen By Ung999
This Simple Kitchen by Ung999 is understated and elegant. We especially love the neat modern sink, large refrigerator, and modern built-in stove with a compact stove hood.
The entire kitchen comes as several sets and includes everything you see above. Each site matches well to ensure your kitchen is simple but also elegant and stylish.
9 Pirouette Stairs by Leo
Leo provides more staircases than just the previous set. This decorative set is called the Pirouette Stairs because of the way the stairs make a 180-degree turn on a dime. Again, though they aren’t actually functional, they’ll a) look great in any home you build and b) inspire you to build a similar but fully-functional set with The Sims new configurable stairs.
This design is actually a conversion from a Sims 3 set created by Ez2ciamapeincess, so don’t go giving this creator all the credit just yet.
8 Serenity Kitchen By Arwen Kaboom
The Serenity Kitchen by Arwen Kaboom truly does live up to its name with its beautiful pastel colors and modern design. The appliances are especially unique here and really sell the entire set. We love the inset sink with mixer tap and the built-in stovetop and oven. Both compliment the kitchen well.
The set comes with the cabinets, stove, sink, dining table, chair, and ottomans you see here. There’s also a fridge as well as some extra shelving and counter islands.
7 Pivoting Windows and Sculptural Stairs by Daeron
These stairs may just be sculptural and not fully functional, but they do come with a set of pivoting windows to make your home look all the more modern and classy. What’s better yet is that the wood in the staircase and the wood of the window frames match perfectly. This creates quite a cohesive interior design for your Sims to enjoy.
The windows and staircase come in three different swatches—dark, medium, and light wood—and they come in three different sizes depending on how tall the walls in your home are. So if you want your Sims to enjoy a little bit of nature, make sure you install these decorative pieces.
6 Texas Kitchen By Nikadema
This Texas Kitchen set by Nikadema catches your eye due to the stove which includes a built-in island and shelf. It also has a modern stove hood, matching sink, and units that tie it all together.
The chairs and table that create the full island effect are especially unique and what draws us to this set. It comes in several swatches but the monochrome ones offer the most stunning effect.
5 Stairs Add-On Part 1 by mutske
If the stairs in your latest build just don’t have enough or you’d like to create some more spaces for all that clutter CC you just downloaded, look no further than mutske’s stairs add-ons.
These add-ons that match EA’s original staircases bring some functional dynamic to your Sims’ homes. You can stack clutter on each of the “steps” and wrap your stairs around decks, walls, and other similar objects to give your build a more realistic interior design as opposed to the rather stocky and generic staircases EA initially provides you with.
4 Lyne Surveillance Camera by NynaeveDesign
If you want to add a little more realism to your build and keep your Sims safer than ever, install this beautiful custom surveillance camera on the outside of your Sims’ home. It may not work like the burglar alarms of yesteryear (seriously, what happened to the burglars?) but it will still add that finishing touch that makes any build seem like it could come to life at any moment.
They come in three different colors: white, black, and gray, and you can even mix and match colors on different parts of the camera. This makes sure it fits the aesthetic of your build perfectly before installing it.
3 Stairs Add-On Part 2 by mutske
In addition to the original packages of stairs add-ons by mutske, this second package provides Simmers with more finishes, textures, and materials to use in builds. This second package also provides new shapes you can use to create fountains, wider or flared staircases, and entire shelving units that completely match most of the staircases provided by EA itself.
Make the interior (or exterior) design of your Sims’ homes as cohesive and realistic as possible with these two packs of stairs add-ons that fit perfectly into the game.
2 Coffee Makers French Press by Wondymoon
The Sims already offers a variety of coffee machines in the game as it is, but that doesn’t stop custom content creators from going out of their way to make even more aesthetically-pleasing coffee makers than what’s available. In this case, Wondymoon has created a gorgeous glass French press coffee maker that comes in gold, red, black, and gray.
At this link, there are a variety of complementary appliances that will match this French press and look great on any Sim’s kitchen counter. If a French press isn’t really up your (or your Sim’s) alley, make sure you check out the wide variety of appliances Wondymoond has created with The Sims builders in mind.
1 Folding Attic Stairs by Leo
Sims may not have attics to store their holiday decorations and unsightly boxes of junk in, so there’s no real need for a set of stairs that lead to said attic. Still, sometimes Simmers want to add a little bit of realism to their builds. These custom stairs are the perfect solution to the attic-less Sim home.
While they won’t provide your Sims with more storage space, chances are they don’t really need the space and your home will look more realistic. The decorative staircase comes in four different swatches to match different interior design schemes.
