The year is starting off well for Sims 4 builders who are incredibly excited about the upcoming Tiny Living Stuff Pack. It looks set to contain not only the expected array of build and buy and create-a-sim items but also some new ways to build.

SimGuruNinja and designer Conor took to The Sims Twitch channel to host a Livestream which gave Simmers almost 2 hours of information about the upcoming pack. We learned more about the new challenge based lot trait, clothing selection, build and buy items and of course the return of the murphy bed.

There was a lot to take in so we’ve made it easy for you. Here are the most important things we learned about the pack from the Livestream.

10 The Pack Has Hygge Influences

We’ve been told that the influence of the pack is the Hygge style. It’s pronounced hoo-gah, for all those wondering (and SimGuruNinja) and translates as coziness. It’s a style that is designed to invoke feelings of comfort and contentment.

More common in Denmark but also found in Norway its focus is about creating an atmosphere that feels warm, cozy and invokes wellness and happiness. It’s more than just candles and soft lighting, extending into anything that makes a home feel welcoming and snug.

9 Tiny Homes Are Build Challenges

The new tiny home system, a tiny home residential lot trait, actually functions as a building challenge. There are 3 different levels of small build and each has its own maximum size. A small home is no larger than 100 tiles, a tiny home no bigger than 64 and a micro home has to be 32 tiles or under.

All tiles inside a build will count towards the tile limit. A new banner under the toolbar will count the tiles as you build. There are also some exceptions. Floor tiles placed directly onto the ground are exempt as are pools, although decks do count, as does anything on a foundation.

8 There Are Rewards For Building Tiny Homes

Building a tiny home will bring unique benefits and rewards. Each level of tiny build includes 2 unique boosts, as well as those of the tier above it. This means that the smallest homes have an impressive 6 unique benefits.

These buffs include reduced bills as well as boosts to relationships, skills, happiness, and even plant growth. The normal lot traits box is still visible during this process so it’s likely that the bonuses are separate to normal traits, although this was not confirmed.

7 The New Build And Buy Items Are Space Saving

The new build and buy items have a huge focus on space-saving. Many are one tile placements and are narrower and shorter than existing items. The aim is clearly to create a more functional small house with items in scale with this.

Items include a bed, chairs, tables, a couch, a new toilet and sink, and some clutter items. There’s also a dresser, rug, lamp, lights and some new space-saving combination objects. We also get a new piece of artwork with several different swatches.

6 Some Objects Have Multiple Functions

This is something that came with the patch, rather than the pack, but the new objects utilize it well. Basically, all bookend clutter now functions as a bookshelf. The amplifier from Moschino Stuff also functions as a radio. This is available to all and was part of the last patch, along with the ability to upgrade beds.

On top of this, the pack uses this functionality to create space-saving all in one items. There are a couple of TV combos that provide television, radio and bookshelf functions all in one easy to navigate menu. Thus saving both space and clicks of the mouse, genius.

5 The New Create A Sim Items Are Snug

As we briefly saw in the trailer, the new create-a-sim items focus on comfort. There are some nice chunky knits and several casual outfits for adults. These are everyday wear and perfect for settling down in front of a fire.

There are also some new hairs as well as a pair of glasses, earrings and a necklace. The latter two match, something many were excited about as its something we rarely see. Unfortunately, there is no new clothing for children or toddlers.

4 New Adults Hairs Are Now Available For Kids

Despite the lack of clothing, it’s not all bad news for kids. The new adult hairstyles are also available for both kids and toddlers, meaning all ages benefit and parents can now match their children, should they so desire.

SimGuruNinja mentioned a desire to try and implement this where possible in the future to bring more variety to all ages in terms of customization.

3 There’s A New Death

We didn’t see the death on stream but it was confirmed that the new murphy bed can be “a murder death machine” as SimGuruNinja put it.

The bed comes in several different combinations, with or without bookcases and an in-built love seat. As a default, it has a small chance to cause death. This is greatly increased if the bed breaks. However, for those who want to live risk-free you can use your handiness skill to make the bed fully safe to use.

2 There Appear To Be Ghost Changes

While we didn’t see the death animation, SimGuruNinja had a ghost appear that was killed by a murphy bed. This new ghost appearance has z’s on the front and seems to come with some unique attributes.

After being added to the household the ghost was able to possess the sims in the household, sap their energy and can also stop them from sleeping. These ghosts are rough and something we’ve not seen before.

1 Sims Are Proud Of Their New Way Of Life

After navigating the challenges of a tiny build and sleeping in the death trap of a bed, it would make sense that Sims are proud of their accomplishments. A nice extra touch is that they are able to brag about this to other Sims.

Depending on the size of your house you will be able to talk about your tiny home, really tiny home or your really tiny home. It’s good to know that your Sims can be as proud as you are for navigating the difficulties and benefits of tiny living.
