Screenshot functionality is coming to Xbox One in March’s system update, Microsoft has confirmed.

The feature lets players take screenshots of Xbox One games by double-tapping the Xbox button and pressing Y.

The screenshot is actually grabbed the moment you double-tap the Xbox button and stored to memory once you hit Y. The system ensures players actually grab the scene they want to capture, rather than trigger a delay by forcing the player to wait for the Y option.

Players can also use their voice to take a screengrab, share their shot with friends or set it as their background.

The implementation still isn’t as ideal as PS4’s, however, which has a dedicated Share button and allows players to grab screenshots without disrupting gameplay. Here, the game will presumably be paused while the option to save the screen snaps onto the right hand side of the display.

Nevertheless, fans will no doubt be happy at screenshot functionality finally arriving on Xbox One. The feature has been widely requested by the community since the console’s launch in 2013.

March’s system update also introduces the option to share your real name with the entire Xbox community, making it easier to find friends, while a new Suggested Friends area highlights recommended players.

And finally, the update will also allow you to set the transparency of tiles on the background, with three different gradients now available in the Settings menu.

The update is rolling out to Xbox One Preview members now although a public release date has yet to be confirmed.
