Lionsgate is returning to its Saw horror movie franchise with Saw: Legacy, The Tracking Board reports.

The Saw franchise has been dormant since 2010’s Saw 3D (Saw: The Final Chapter) and given its lukewarm reception did leave many assuming that Lionsgate had actually put an end to the ‘game’.

Since then there has been talk of potentially remaking James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s original Saw movie, but the closest we got was a limited re-release in 2014.

Now, after many pitches Saw: Legacy has been given the green light with writing pair Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger hired to pen the newest instalment. The duo were behind the return of Piranha and Sorority Row.

Wan – who has gone on to direct Fast 7 and is behind the upcoming Aquaman – will exec produce alongside Whannell.
