The San Francisco Shock had one of the greatest playoff runs in recent memory. After their loss to the Atlanta Reign, they were sent to the loser bracket because of 2019 Overwatch League’s playoffs double-elimination format. If they lost again, they would be done and a championship would no longer be possible. Not only did the San Francisco Shock not lose, but they didn’t lose a single map, destroying everyone in their path and beating the Titans 4-0 to secure the Grand Finals Championship.
Not everything can be summarized with joy, though. With the off-season in full swing and players parting ways with their former teams, the San Francisco Shock announced that they have released Andreas “Nevix” Karlsson.
The Swedish-born player has had a solid career in the professional Overwatch scene, playing with Cloud9 EU, Misfits, and others before joining the San Francisco Shock for the inaugural 2018 season of Overwatch League. The Shock had a rough 2018 season and finished the year ninth overall out of 12 teams, with a record of 17-23. San Francisco had to make some changes.
Thus Nevix’s time with the San Francisco Shock has come to an end. However, as a fan-favorite and great teammate, Nevix should have no problem finding a new team. The Shock stated numerous times that he is incredibly talented and one of the best leaders on the team. As the San Francisco Shock look to defend their title heading into the 2020 season, Nevix will hopefully find a new team that he can help lead going forward.
