SNK has announced that Samurai Shodown will be getting Wan-Fu this week as DLC. The final character in the revived fighter’s first season, Wan-Fu will be releasing on December 18, 2019, for PS4 and Xbox One. A name recognizable to veterans of the series, Wan-Fu has been featured in multiple titles from the series’ past. His inclusion here is more based on his first iteration in the original Samurai Shodown, which should be a nice treat for older fans.

As you can see, Wan-Fu likes to smack opponents with a gigantic stone pillar. It’s not the sharp, deadly blades that other characters utilizes, but a massive blunt object. While the character has traded that pillar for a blade in other entries, it’s great to see him return to the style that made him so menacing. It’s also completely different from the character included in this reboot.

Wan-Fu is included in the game’s first season pass or can be purchased as a standalone fighter. The Switch version, which is set for a Q1 2020 release, will not contain the DLC fighters with its base roster. Players will need to either grab the season pass or pick up characters piecemeal.

The success of SNK’s revival of Samurai Shodown resulted in a fifth character being added to the game’s first season. Released for free, it shows how dedicated SNK is to making sure this new fighter lives on. A second season is scheduled for release sometime in 2020 and its first character will be Mina Majikina. A leak from the arcade port basically confirmed Sogetsu Kazama will also be coming to the game.

With the series having a rich history of creative and wacky characters, the possibilities for newcomers are practically endless. A poll has indicated which characters are the most popular among fans and those will likely be coming to the game in due time. What’s a Samurai Shodown game without Cham Cham, for instance?

Now we just need confirmation of that PC port and we’ll be set. The recent Stadia version hasn’t done much to satiate fans looking for the game on PC, not to mention the input delay has resulted in the version being barely playable.
