Samurai Shodown is heading to Switch next week and along with it will come the second season of DLC fighters. Coming to SNK’s revived fighter on February 26, 2020, Mina Majikina will be bringing some long-ranged action and amnesia induced agony to the cast of ultra-serious samurai fighters.
Originally debuting in Samurai Shodown V (which, chronologically, takes place before this reboot), Mina was created as the face of a new era of Samurai Shodown. Laden with fan service, her background is that of being a demon exorcist huntress. The cute little critter that follows her around is actually responsible for destroying her village and family. Talk about twisted.
Mina’s inclusion in this reboot is down to a fan poll. She was rated in the top five fighters that fans wished to see return. Apart from her obvious physical attributes, she also represents a pretty different playstyle than what is currently available in Samurai Shodown. A lot of her attacks rely on range and her overall speed makes her deal heavy pressure to opponents. She’s almost an antithesis to the entire cast.
While more casual players may have ignored Samurai Shodown, the game is a great reimagining of a once-popular series. After being absent from the scene for a decade, SNK’s recent efforts with The King of Fighters have led to the team making one of its best games in decades.
Maybe it’s not for everyone, but fans of fighting games owe it to themselves to try out Samurai Shodown. It’s quite different from typical, combo heavy fighting games and its unique visual style makes it stand out from the pack. That every character is a joy to play is also a bonus, which makes picking a main difficult.
Mina will be the first of four characters coming to Samurai Shodown in season two. Others currently confirmed are Kazama Sogetsu and Iroha. The fourth character hasn’t been unveiled but is heavily rumored to be Cham Cham (Tam Tam’s sister). You can grab Mina individually or as part of the second season pass next week. Both passes will be available for Switch on the same day.
