While much of Resident Evil-related focus is on the upcoming Resident Evil 3 remake and Resistance right now, Resident Evil 8 is also rumored to be in development. Further, some information has been leaked that could indicate some of what we’ll see in the next mainline entry.

According to Twitter user Nibellion, who cited popular YouTube channel Residence of Evil, the first details of Resident Evil 8 have been put out as rumors. As per a YouTube video from Residence of Evil, the information is coming from Biohazard Declassified, which received the rumors via their tip line.

The tweet, along with Residence of Evil’s video, can be seen below.

As shown above, Nibellion lists the information in the video summarizing the key points from Biohazard Declassified. First and foremost, Resident Evil 7’s Ethan Winters will come back as a playable character.

Secondly, Resident Evil 8 was just tested in 2019, which Residence of Evil notes would justify the existence of the leak if true.

The game also won’t technically be titled Resident Evil 8. Rather, it will be called something else. However, it will feature the same first-person perspective seen in 2017’s Resident Evil 7.

The game will apparently open in a village but will progress to a location with a castle. The environments are described as “rural, snowy, and mountainous.” This could potentially be Europe, as it recalls the environment of Resident Evil 4.

Additionally, Resident Evil 7’s Molded enemy types will be replaced by the traditional zombie. Moreover, there will be a silhouette-like female foe who will follow the player’s path, much in the style of Mr. X. However, if shot, the foe disappears.

Wolves, or monsters similar to wolves, will also be featured in the game. It isn’t specified if these are wolves exactly, as they could be werewolves instead. Regardless, this would be an interesting new element for the Resident Evil series.

Finally, regular series protagonist Chris Redfield will be returning in the new Resident Evil game. His role is unclear for now, though it will be interesting to see how his story is expanded upon from Resident Evil 7.

If true, these rumors will make for a different Resident Evil game from what has come before. Although aggressive dogs have been featured before, werewolves have never made an appearance. It’s also odd that the game will potentially not be titled Resident Evil 8.

Of course, none of these details are official, so it’s best to take them with a grain of salt.
