Recently, Reddit exploded within a chaos of rumors that potentially point to a new IP under the Rockstar banner. Discovered by user RedArrow544 and posted in r/GamingLeaksAndRumors, two relatively strange images may yet identify not only an upcoming announcement but also a completely new experience. This raises a million questions, of course: Could Rockstar be hiding something completely game-changing, maybe even some next-gen content? Is it really a brand-new IP to add to their brand? What genre will they be shooting for? And most importantly…
What’s with the sexy C3PO?
No less than a month following the announced departure of Dan Houser, a storm of leaks and rumors has already begun to swirl across the internet. Given the creative director’s stepping down, many in the industry had believed it was the end of an era for not only the renowned Grand Theft Auto developer, but likewise Take-Two in its entirety. Though speculation might have initially pointed to Rockstar quitting the singleplayer gaming scene, this may not be entirely true. Various job postings on both LinkedIn and Indeed proves that Rockstar has something on the table. Better batten down the hatches, the hurricane of rumors is now ever-evolving.
New evidence suggests that Rockstar is up to something behind the scenes. While some speculate in the Reddit comments that it could be an update for GTA Online or quite possibly a Bully tease, it may well be something far more interesting. When the Rockstar Games website is refreshed, the below image is shown, revealing numbers and letters all arranged in a rather interesting pattern. Hardcore fans and sleuths on Reddit have already begun their attempts at deciphering this new coded message, yet others still remain skeptical, pointing out that it could very well be just another GTA Online update. Is it a hint at a new game, or something less promising?
Given the fact that an ex-Rockstar employee has already detailed a very long wait for GTA 6, it’s highly doubtful the hints and images pertain to the next open-world sandbox. It could even be a revival of the lost Rockstar stealth title now long-forgotten, codenamed Agent. Then again, the Cyberpunk-esque golden robot displayed in the initial image only raises more questions then it does alleviate the confusion. Rockstar may very well be banking on the PAX East hype to overshadow their shady winks and nods, yet it’s clear there is something odd going on behind the scenes. What, though, remains a complete mystery.
Not only are the real-world enigmas ever-growing, yet even in-game hints prove an announcement is imminent. These include a string of numbers bequeathed by RDO’s Madam Nazar and GTAO’s newly-added robotic fortune teller (who interestingly goes by the same name). Whatever the case may be, a new game, update to an already-existing one, or even a next-gen IP, it’s clear Rockstar Games has some explosive content just waiting to steal our attention away.
