Update 2/26: Sony has confirmed the free PS Plus games for March 2020, and it turns out this leak was correct. PS Plus subscribers can claim Shadow of the Colossus and Sonic Forces beginning Tuesday, March 3.
Sony announces the next batch of free PlayStation Plus games on the last Wednesday of every month, so an official reveal will come in just a matter of hours from the writing of this writing. However, it’s possible that the free PS Plus games for March 2020 may have leaked online thanks to an advertisement that appears to have gone live prematurely. While we can’t say with certainty that this leak is legitimate, if it is, it’s going to be a very strong month for PS Plus.
According to the leak, Shadow of the Colossus and Sonic Forces will be the free PS Plus games for March 2020. While Sonic Forces earned mixed reviews at the time of its release, Shadow of the Colossus was critically-acclaimed. In fact, Shadow of the Colossus is widely considered to be one of the best video games ever made, often appearing on “top” lists and considered one of the best examples of video games as an art form.
Shadow of the Colossus on PS4 is a remake of the PS2 classic, boasting tighter controls and improved visuals. It comes from Bluepoint Games, which is a studio that has a reputation of high quality remasters and remakes. Bluepoint’s next game is highly anticipated partly because of the impressive job it did on Shadow of the Colossus, so hopefully PS Plus subscribers that have yet to check it out will soon have the chance to do so for free.
Something fans may notice about the leaked PS Plus games for March 2020 is the lack of a PlayStation VR game. The free PS Plus games for February 2020 included a bonus PS VR game in the form of Firewall: Zero Hour, and some had hoped that free VR games would become standard for PS Plus moving forward. If this leak is accurate, though, it seems like fans shouldn’t hold their breath for PS Plus to start offering a free PS VR game every month as well.
While the lack of a free PS VR game may be disappointing to some, it’s safe to say that many will be satisfied by Shadow of the Colossus at least. We’ll find out in a few hours if this leak is real or not.
