John Romero has cancelled the Kickstarter campaign for his upcoming FPS Blackroom just days after its launch, with the intention of launching another campaign once a demo of the game is ready to show. The current Kickstarter had reached just $131,052 at the time of its cancellation, more than $550,000 short of its $700,000 target. “The team is at work on a demo which demonstrates the kind of gameplay, look and innovative, cool features that make BLACKROOM truly unique – the things we’ve waited years to put into an FPS and which make us incredibly excited about this game,” an update from the developer said....

Headcannon, the studio behind Sonic Mania and the mobile ports of Sonics 1 and 2, has just launched a Kickstarter campaign for its newest project and first original IP: Vertebreaker. Retro is the name of the game for Headcanon’s upcoming release. With a graphical style similar to that of Sonic Mania, Vetrebreaker could fit in seamlessly alongside the Sega Genesis projects from which it seems to draw significant inspiration. It even features a soundtrack to match from composer Michael Staple, who has already posted previews of his original compositions for the game to his Soundcloud account....
Today Atlus released another of its traditional daily trailers for its upcoming JRPG Soul Hackers 2, showing one of the demons of the game. Square Enix published its annual repot for shareholders and it includes a lot of details about the company’s future strategy directly from CEO Yosuke Matsuda. Matsuda-san explains that the objective of the sales of some of Square Enix’s western studios to Embracer was to revamp the company’s portfolio of IPs and studios enabling it to be selective and focused on leveraging development resources. He admits that achieving growth is difficult for companies that compete primarily in the Japanese market, so it’s “critical” for Square Enix to produce hit games that speak to the global market, offering greater scale in terms of customers and sales volumes....
