Game of Thrones has been the subject of many news reports over the past few weeks, which have mostly involved a decline in the show’s quality as it reaches its last few episodes. No amount of dragon massacres or zombie invasions could match the headline-grabbing power of a coffee cup being left on the set during a scene in Winterfell, which prompted fans to wonder if the production staff had started to tune out, as the show is due to end soon....

Frictional Games has announced that its most excellent horror game SOMA is at last heading to the Xbox One, and brings with it a new Safe Mode for those wanting to explore the story without the fear of being attacked by monsters. The game, which originally came out in 2015 on PC and then later for the PlayStation 4, is an atmospheric creepy adventure set on the underwater facility PATHOS-II where things have gone very wrong in part thanks to an AI going off the rails....

Sonic the Hedgehog comes out tomorrow, February 14, with early showings starting tonight. Reviewers who had access to screenings have already put together their final thoughts on the film, though. It may be cutting it close, but Rotten Tomatoes has put up its Critics Consensus for Sonic the Hedgehog so potential viewers can decide whether they want to see the film. It seems that worries that the film could be a complete disaster were perhaps presumptuous....

Sony has announced plans to take PlayStation VR and PS4 Pro on tour across the UK through September and October, giving fans the chance to take a look at both of them ahead of their release. The tour kicks off in Birmingham at tomorrow’s EGX, before heading to Glasgow, Sheffield, London, Bristol and Manchester. I was recently listening to a gaming podcast where the host accidentally deleted all his game save data from his Xbox. To prevent baldness due to pulling your hair out after realizing you just erased months if not years worth of data, they say you should regularly back up your data, but how many of us actually do? Sony may be working on a solution to this when they asked PlayStation Network users in a recent survery what new features they would like in future updates to the network....

Sony will host its E3 2016 conference at 2am BST on the morning of Tuesday, June 14, the platform holder has confirmed. The event will be staged at the Shine Auditorium in LA. Sony hasn’t revealed any other info on what will be shown at the conference, though you can be sure of some big announcements and gameplay demos – The Last Guardian, we’re looking at you. Who knows, we might even get info on a new PS4 console....

Sony now has a $250 million minority stake in developer Epic Games, as a “strategic investment” for “further collaboration.” Of course, it was the Unreal Engine 5 which was shown off on the PlayStation 5, with all those Lumens and Nanites. “Epic’s powerful technology in areas such as graphics places them at the forefront of game engine development with Unreal Engine and other innovations,” enthused Kenichiro Yoshida, chairman, president and CEO of Sony....

There’s just over a month to go before the ninth and final chapter of the Skywalker Saga is unleashed on the world, and the pre-release publicity machine is gearing up to blast into hyperspace. And so it is that the director of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, J.J. Abrams, has been speaking about his approach to bringing the film to the screen. In an interview in the new issue of Total Film magazine (via Gamesradar+), the director spoke about the differences between working on 2015’s The Force Awakens – with which he kickstarted the sequel trilogy – and his upcoming saga-capper, admitting that he found himself “wanting to do something that felt more consistent with the original trilogy than not” when he was making Episode 7....

We are especially happy to write this article today because just the other week, a friend of ours who has never seen the Star Wars saga is now one with the Force, and has joined the swelling tide of fandoms for these characters and storylines. The Star Wars Battlefront 2 community have celebrated the changes that came to the game, from its launch to its final update, and thanked the developer for all of its efforts (via Eurogamer). Cinematic Captures, a Star Wars Battlefront 2 cinematography YouTube channel, published this tribute to recognise the path that the game has trod and how grateful the players are to the developers. “The turnaround from launch to where you guys got the game in the end… the fact it’s a poster [child] for turnaround games… is a pretty amazing feat,” said YouTuber SammyBoiii....

Revealing cosmically small tidbits of gameplay and story details, the newest trailer for Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was still the perfect blend of immersion and insight. One of the more interesting entrees served by the teaser was a one-on-one bout between a gargantuan beast, called a “Gorgara,” and the main character, Carl Kestis. Though very few similar creatures were displayed in this trailer, Force-sensitive enthusiasts are well aware that Star Wars doesn’t mess around when it comes to interplanetary wildlife and the mixed dangers that may accompany them....

Stardew Valley will be the next game to receive a free trial on Nintendo Switch. Switch Online subscribers across Europe, Australia, and Japan will be able to play the game for free for a week, from 13th June until 19th June.
