As revealed at SDCC 2019, Shang Chi, Marvel’s master of kung fu, will be battling The Mandarin in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This is HUGE news, considering the controversy surrounding the villain’s first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2013. The Mandarin is a classic Iron Man villain created by Stan Lee and Don Heck in 1964 as a sort-of Green Lantern ripoff to fight Stark and be a tie back to his origin in Vietnam....
Blackfox Studios’ Dreadlands has entered Early Access on PC, and it offers a very unique apocalypse scenario with strategic online skirmishes. Dreadlands is the studio’s debut game, but publisher Fatshark is known for Warhammer: Vermintide 2, Warhammer – End Times: Vermintide, and Escape Dead Island. In the end times, everyone is scrambling and striving to survive, seeking a strange element named Glonithium. Or, Glow, for short. It’s a little Borderlands-esque, only if the fart jokes were swapped for turn-based tactical skirmishes between factions....

Litwick takes centre stage for October’s Community Day – a reoccurring Pokémon Go event that increases the spawn rate for a specific Pokémon, while also boosting shiny rates and offering an exclusive move, along with a whole host of other bonuses! The Candle Pokémon is a fan favourite, both because of how ridiculously cute it is, but also because its fully evolve form, Chandelure, is very strong in Pokémon Go. Earlier today, Sony San Diego released a new trailer for MLB The Show 22 that revealed three big details about the upcoming baseball video game. Arguably, the biggest reveal was that 2021 American League MVP, Shohei Ohtani, will be the cover athlete for the game this year. This marks the first time that a Japanese player is featured on the cover of MLB The Show. Shohei Ohtani was a force to be reckoned with last year and became the first player to lead the league in home runs while starting as a pitcher since Babe Ruth did it 100 years ago....
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s mysterious mode has been revealed. At Nintendo’s Smash-focused Direct today, series creator Masahiro Sakurai revealed the mode as “Spirits.” This mode takes the place of collectible trophies, in that these Spirits are characters seen from throughout the Smash Bros. multiverse. From the Direct, you can see many different characters, such as Tails, Dragonite, and Dr. Wily. So, what do these Spirits accomplish for the player? Sakurai states that Spirits enhance the fighter....
The next Super Smash Bros. Ultimate online tournament event has been revealed and it will pit heroes and villains against each other. The 4.0.0 patch for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate added online tournaments to the game, which have rotating rule sets every few days, ranging from 1v1 Omega stage matches with no items or stage hazards, to four-player free for alls with items on and the most annoying stages up for selection....
Rebellion has announced Sniper Elite VR, which, as you have likely surmised, is a VR version of Sniper Elite. It looks to be exactly as cool as it should be; check out the trailer: In an intriguing development, the game is a prequel to Sniper Elite 4. Whenever I see the word “soul” in game titles, I roll my eyes. Usually, this is warranted; the endless glut of “Souls-likes” has persisted unabated for some time now. Thankfully, Soulstice is a throwback to action games that were in vogue prior to the current most popular trend. The game is being developed by the Italian developer Reply Game Studios, and is set to release later this year. The preview content left me impressed, even if its optimization made my GPU’s fan go faster than I think I’ve ever heard it spin....
At Square Enix’s E3 conference it was revealed that two entries in the SaGa series will be localized for English and brought to PC: Romancing SaGa 3 and SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions. The SaGa series was created by Final Fantasy XII producer Akitoshi Kawazu, and it is known for its open gameplay, as well as its strange and esoteric mechanics. It has enjoyed considerable popularity in Japan, but ever since the multiplatform release of Romancing SaGa 2 in 2017, SaGa has not seen a release outside of Japan....

Diving back into the news this week, however, I noticed that Star Citizen had once again returned to the headlines....
There were quite a few problems with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. In the original trilogy, we had a fantastic adventure story told in space. In the prequels, we got bogged down in politics and the most cringe-y romance ever to be seen onscreen. We also got Jar Jar Binks, objectively the worst character ever to stumble onto the Star Wars scene. However, I’m a glass-half-full kind of girl. I am a firm believer that even the worst movies have something redeemable about them, something that you can point to as a really cool moment....
Star Wars: The Force Awakens was the highest-grossing film of 2015 in the UK, taking £97.4 million at the box office. The figure saw the seventh episode in the Star Wars saga overtake Spectre’s £92 million total. In terms of the all-time biggest films in the UK, The Force Awakens has also passed Avatar which earned £94 million and looks likely to pass Skyfall’s record of £102.9 million. It would be no understatement to claim that Star Wars Battlefront II is a drastically different game from when it first released. Upon hitting shelves in 2017, it was met with a huge backlash from fans, much of which centered around the game’s lootbox system. However, the team over at EA and Dice have spent the last two years creating a hugely immersive experience and, much like Anakin Skywalker and Ben Solo, completed their redemption....

State of Decay 2 will be releasing on Steam in early 2020, according to State of Decay series developer Undead Labs. In a tweet sent out by Undead Labs, it was announced that the post-apocalyptic game originally released in 2018 will be making its way to Steam early in the year of 2020. The tweet can be seen below. On the official website for State of Decay, it is explained that Undead Labs is a “fan-first studio” and is responding to a top request of fans to port State of Decay 2 to the Steam platform....
With Capcom partnering up with Sony on the release of Street Fighter V and the re-release of Ultra Street Fighter IV on PS4, Xbox One owners have been without a way to play Street Fighter on their system. Thankfully, a new backwards compatibility update has enabled Street Fighter IV to be playable on Xbox One. Great news then, but sadly there’s no compatibility for players with the updated SF4 releases including Super, Arcade and Ultra....
