The mock-documentary Skyman doesn’t tell the usual UFO encounter story. Director Daniel Myrick, who broke on the scene with the groundbreaking horror thriller The Blair Witch Project, does not put this together using found footage. The film examines the aftermath of an alien visitation, and the story is told by a witness and survivor. Carl Merryweather (Michael Selle) was seven years old when he saw the “skyman” in Barstow, a small town in California....

Today Japanese developer GeSEI unkan and publisher Playism announced the slow-paced city-builder simulation game Drago Noka. The game lets the player create their fantasy village on the back of a massive dragon after the surface of the world has been overrun by monsters. It’ll release on PC via Steam in 2022 and below you can check out some screenshots featuring the game’s charming pixel art style and an official description.

CI Games, developer behind Sniper Ghost Warrior 3, has released a statement addressing the problems that plagued the game on launch. Studio head Marek Tymiñski said ‘When we began development of SGW3, we decided on such a relatively large scale of the game with its open world that now we realise it was just too ambitious versus what we could have been able to deliver in any reasonable amount of time....

Frictional Games, the studio behind masterful sci-fi horror Soma, has announced a new entry in its acclaimed Amnesia series. It’s called Amnesia: The Bunker and is heading to Xbox, PlayStation, and PC in March next year. The Bunker - which will be the fourth Amnesia game, following on from The Dark Descent, A Machine for Pigs, and last year’s Rebirth - promises to be something a little bit different, favouring “unscripted” semi-open-world horror over its predecessors’ more linear scares....

Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka has said he hopes the upcoming untitled Sonic 2022 game will lay the foundation for future Sonic games, much like 1999’s Sonic Adventure. Speaking in an interview with Sonic Stadium, Iizuka was asked about the team’s goals for the recently announced latest outing for the Blue Blur. He mentioned how the team weren’t really considering the title an anniversary game, as it’s not expected until 2022 while Sonic’s 30th anniversary is this year....

Sony has now exceeded the number of games it promised to make available as part of its PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium catalogues, after previously launching the service in other regions with far fewer titles than expected. Fans had been eyeing the service’s slow roll-out over the course of the past month through different countries around the world - until its final deployment in the UK and mainland Europe today....

Recent patent applications by Sony Interactive Entertainment have been unearthed that may be a glimpse at potential controllers for the recently announced “next generation PSVR headset” from last week. The filing, published in November to the US Patent and Trademark Office was spotted by GamesIndustry.biz and is said to be for a “Control apparatus and control program” and includes images of a new controller from the front and back. Though there’s no guarantee that the finished product will look anything like this, interesting features include what is apparently a small LED panel that can emit light in a variety of colours, presumably to replace and offer a similar function to the coloured orbs on the top of the previous PSVR’s Move controllers....

Another big name is joining the MCU, as it was revealed during a presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas Monday that Grammy-winning artist Bad Bunny will star as El Muertoin a standalone Marvel movie for Sony at some point in 2024. Originally reported by Indiewire, the news is rather historic, as it’ll be the first-ever Latino-led marvel movie ever. In the comics, El Muerto, real name Juan Carlos, fights Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match and almost unmasks Peter Parker....

We may not completely understand the motivations behind the hackers who broke into the PlayStation Network and stole customer information, especially since the company itself was the intended target. Now it seems that a few more websites bearing the Sony name have fallen prey to hacks, with the personal information of several thousand customers once again being exposed. This news comes hot on the heels of Sony Thailand’s website playing host to a credit card phishing scam, making it abundantly clear that to the worldwide hacking community, all of the Japanese company’s various databases are now fair game....

Aksys Games, a video game publisher who has worked for Namco Bandai, Atlus, and Xseed Games, has opened up pre-orders for Spirit Hunter: NG in preparation for its release this October. Aksys Games Localization, Inc. got its start in Torrance, California in July of 2006 and from there it began to publish for some of the biggest names in the video game industry. Some notable titles for the publisher include BlazBlue, Record of Agarest War 2, Guilty Gear Xrd, and Arcana Heart 3....

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has suggested that the Xbox 360 versions of Splinter Cell could be made backwards compatible with Xbox One. Speaking during the firm’s Q1 FY16 financial results last night, Guillemot praised the tech as being “very good news for the industry”, and that it would help the publisher bring brands “like Splinter Cell” to Microsoft’s new console. “It’s good news for gamers that Microsoft was able to work on the compatibility aspect,” he said....

THQ Nordic has revealed 12 minutes of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated pre-alpha gameplay. The game remasters an early 2000s classic. The original SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom came out in 2003 for the Gamecube, PC, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. The game took players through the world of Bikini Bottom to platform their way through multiple challenges. It used the mascot platformer concept, like Mario or Banjo Kazooie, and and applied a SpongeBob coating....

James Ohlen, the lead designer on many BioWare classics like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Baldur’s Gate, and Dragon Age: Origins, joined Wizards of the Coast last year, and we now know he will serve as head of the new studio opening in Austin, Texas called Archetype Entertainment. Ohlen will be joined by fellow ex-BioWare employee Chad Robertson who served as BioWare’s studio director from 2017-2019. Robertson will serve as General Manager of the new studio while Ohlen is identified as the head of Archetype Entertainment....

EA has released a new trailer for its upcoming space shooter, Star Wars Battlefront II. This is Star Wars Battlefront 2 shows off some of the game’s locations, heroes, and vehicles that’ll be coming to the explosion-laden spectacular. The sub-five minute trailer even features narration from John Boyega, who plays the character Finn in Star Wars The Last Jedi. It’s a shame John sounds so bored throughout the trailer, I thought he’d have been chuffed with the addition of the single-player campaign....

Star Wars Battlefront 2 developer DICE is tinkering away on a new season of content for its big-budget sci-fi spectacle. Say hello to The Han Solo Season, which is being thrown together to mark the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story in cinemas this summer. Content from the upcoming flick will be featured in the first-person shooter, although publisher Electronic Arts is keeping mum on any proper details right now....
