I am a firm believer that SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom (and its remake) is a good game. No, a great game, but it was a sponge of a good time. A golden star(fish) in the world of platformers based on an established IP. And listen, those SpongeBob platformers (there’s also the movie game) may not be the golden standard of platforming games, but they’re sharp, witty, well-designed adventures that are beloved for a reason....

Earlier today, Star Wars actor Ewan McGregor appeared in an announcement regarding the upcoming Disney+ TV series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, in which he’ll be reprising his role as the titular character. In the video, the actor revealed that the release date for the show would be pushed back from Wednesday, May 25, to Friday, May 27. Alongside this news, it was also revealed that the first two episodes will be available together, meaning fans will get to experience well over an hour of Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi the first day it drops....

EA and DICE will be launching the Night on Endor update for Star Wars Battlefront 2 next week on 18 April which will include the return of in-game transactions. After last years loot box debacle, EA is now ready to roll out the new monetisation model with Crystals and this time it’s only appearances that are purchasable with Crystals and real money. Appearances can also be earned from playing the game making the new system a lot more palatable....

Star Wars Battlefront’s second expansion pack – Bespin – will be available to Season Pass holders on June 21, before launching two weeks later to everybody else, EA has announced. The new DLC introduces four new multiplayer maps set in the Cloud City of Bespin, including one that sees players fighting within the city’s carbon-freezing chambers and another located in the Administrator’s Palace. A brand new ‘cloud car vehicle’ and two new characters are included too, including smuggler Landro Calrissian and bounty hunter Dengar each featuring unique abilities....

I had very high hopes going into Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. I’ve played the last few major releases from Respawn Entertainment: Titanfall, Titanfall 2, and Apex Legends. Through playing each of these, I’ve grown accustomed to Respawn Entertainment’s style of visuals. The studio’s ability to craft worlds and environments is incredibly impressive. The same goes for textures and armor. There’s something noticeable about how clean and detailed both of these things are when done by Respawn....

Image & Form’s deliciously addictive metroidvania title SteamWorld Dig 2 is getting a physical release on Switch and PS4, Rising Star Games has announced. At this time, Wizards has outlined seven MTG Secret Lair products, and they feature some desirable reprints with “eye-popping designs and never-before-seen art styles.” Essentially, the Secret Lair brand gives players the opportunity to purchase singles directly from Wizards of the Coast for a limited time, which may mark the beginning of a new era for MTG....

Earlier today, Kyiv-based game studio Frogwares announced the official title for its project Palianytsia as Sherlock Holmes the Awakened. The Kickstarter site for this remake of one of the classic Sherlock Holmes titles is live now as a safeguard for the game’s funding. Shigeru Miyamoto has been honoured with the title of Person of Cultural Merit by the Japanese government (via Crunchyroll). The award is given to those who have contributed significantly to the art and culture of Japan, and is one of the most prestigious honours a creative could receive. Previous recipients include GeGeGe no Kitarō creator Shigeru Mizuki in 2010, filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki in 2012, and actor and kabuki performer Nakamura Kichiemon II in 2017....

Nintendo Wii owners have been waiting patiently for a satisfying sword-fighting game on the console. The mini-game in Wii Sports Resort just isn’t meaty enough, and you may be able to wield a sword in some other games but it’s usually not the primary weapon or based on real fencing tactics. Well, Majesco Entertainment may be bringing that long-awaited sword-fighting game to the Wii, simply dubbed Swords. A limited run of 30,000 Final Fantasy 15 Ultimate Collector’s Editions has sold out leading to the set being sold for as much as £500 on eBay, with many others going for upwards of £400. The Ultimate Collector’s Edition contains a range of content, notably a soundtrack Blu-ray, 192-page hardback artbook, Brotherhood anime and an exclusive 26cm Play Arts Kai Noctis figure.
