Today Konami announced that it will host a livestreamed presentation next week dedicated to the Silent Hill franchise. A statement posted on Epic Games’ website reveals that Sony and Kirkbi, the parent company of Lego, have each contributed $1 billion USD to Epic Games in support of its metaverse plans. The CEOs of both companies have expressed the usual excitement over the metaverse’s supposed potential. Sony hasn’t spoken about its next-generation plans yet, but a new patent filed by the hardware giant suggests backwards compatibility will be featured in the PlayStation 5. Published on January 31 (though initially filed on January 20, 2017) the patent lists investors including Mark Cerny, the chief architect for PS4, and Simon Pilgrim, the principal programer at Sony Europe. While PS5 isn’t mentioned by name in the filing (via Reddit), it details a process that sees a new device able to run software from legacy hardware, which sounds a lot like backwards compatibility....
The European PlayStation VR includes a demo disc featuring eight games, which sounded great until the US disc was announced to include a whole lot more. Following a tease last week, Sega has revealed another micro-console the Mega Drive Mini 2. The new console will be released in Japan on October 27, 2022, and it’ll include over 50 games. Shenmue 3’s Kickstarter closed over the weekend having raised a video game record total of $6,333,296 from 69,320 backers. The game got off to a record-setting pace following its announcement during Sony’s E3 conference, but struggled to maintain momentum during its subsequent weeks. Thankfully fans rallied around the project and a final 24 hours push saw an additional $947,000 added to the kitty. All this means Shenmue 3 became the highest funded Kickstarter in the video games category, comfortably overtaking Bloodstained....
