That’s right, the actor has just been announced as the star of the upcoming movie Free Guy, a film that takes place in an open-world video game. Popular gamers Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Imane “Pokimane” Anys, and Seán “Jacksepticeye” McLoughlin will also make cameos in the film....

Every now and again a narrative-focused horror game comes out that defies expectations, delivering scares, interesting mechanics, and a compelling narrative. Sanity of Morris is decidedly the exact opposite of that hypothetical game. From its slavish devotion to tired alien tropes, to its slow, laughable stealth sections, the game would feel right at home with the silhouettes of a guy and two robots plastered at the bottom of the screen. It’s not the worst thing you’ll ever play, but anyone actually looking for scares or competency will want to take a turn onto the next exit ramp....

A new trailer for Team Ninja’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty has been released, showing off gameplay for the first time. The Soulslike game was announced during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase in June and will be released in 2023 across Xbox consoles and PC (Game Pass on both), and PlayStation consoles. It’s led by producers Fumihiko Yasuda (Nioh) and Masaaki Yamagiwa (Bloodborne), and judging by the below trailer it certainly looks familiar....

Kenji Matsubara, executive vice president and chief publishing officer for Sega, has resigned owing to “personal reasons.” (via Nintendo Life). Formerly the CEO of Koei Tecmo, Matsubara joined Sega in the role of chief technology officer in 2014. He was promoted to executive vice president and chief publishing officer only three years after. The news of his departure comes from parent company Sega Sammy Holdings, and it is effective immediately. We’ll update you as this story develops, and it is hoped that Matsubara is in good health, and that the position is filled very soon....

Earlier today, Devolver Digital revealed Shadow Warrior 3 and the return of series protagonist Lo Wang. He has hair this time, though. And new gameplay abilities. Also, he’s apparently obligated to do PR for corporate. During a stroll through a peaceful forest, he talks to his agent while commenting on the developers (nerds!) and graphics tech. It’s the sort of meta-humor that defined this past decade, and it might feel a little late to the party....

The upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie from Paramount Pictures has not been receiving positive buzz. The officially released motion poster was criticized by fans as looking like a very odd take on the iconic character. Meanwhile, an unconfirmed leak features a poster for the movie that has been ridiculed on social media. Now, people who have been associated with Sonic have given their thoughts on the film’s design for the character....

Sonic Frontiers players have noted the game runs at a lower frame rate on Xbox Series S. The game has been optimised for Xbox Series X/S to hit 60fps according to Microsoft, but on Series S it runs at 30fps with no performance mode option to change this. Sega did provide a solution to TheGamer, involving amending the main console settings. Despite a few hiccups on the road to release, Sonic the Hedgehog has firmly cemented itself in the annals of video game movies. The blue speedster has set a new box office weekend record for video game adaptations, surpassing last year’s Detective Pikachu. Sunday morning estimates have Sonic the Hedgehog opening with $57 million over the weekend. It’s a slightly better opening than Detective Pikachu’s $54 million if the numbers hold, but they could also jump up because of the Sunday morning, family-friendly appeal of the movie....

Atlus has released another of its daily trailers of Soul Hackers 2 revealing another demon that will appear in the game. The trailer showcases Orthrus, which is another classic Shin Megami Tensei demon dating all the way back to the beginning of the series. It even appeared in the recent Shin Megami Tensei V. As usual, the video includes the daily horoscope, with Pisces at the top and Virgo at the bottom of the fortune ranking....

This South Park review contains spoilers. South Park Season 23 Episode 5 What’s fun about South Park Halloween episodes is how (not unlike The Simpsons before them), they take Halloween pretty seriously. And by that I mean they usually let the social commentary fall by the wayside and go all-in on the spooky tropes and gore. I’m happy for South Park to do this kind of thing every so often because, after all these years, the satire can get awfully labored at times, with episodes awkwardly shoehorning in current issues in an effort to say something about them, however confused or vague....

It looks like Square Enix is following through on its plans to embrace NFTs. The company is partnering with Enjin to produce NFTs tied to Final Fantasy VII for its 25th anniversary. NFTs damage the environment, and given Final Fantasy VII’s core themes, this is quite ironic. A series of digital cards and figures are planned, which will be tied to physical versions of the items. The first available collectable is an action figure of Cloud Strife that comes with a digital card NFT....

It turns out that Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition is not coming to the Nintendo Switch, at least for now. Long-time Street Fighter Producer Yoshinori Ono took to Twitter to shoot down rumors of the port, saying “Such item does not exist right now. Thanks!” In a now-deleted Twitter post on January 25, EB Games Canada announced that Street Fighter 5: Champion Edition was being released for the Nintendo Switch and was available for preorder....

Today, Capcom revealed a brand new video about its upcoming fighting game Street Fighter 6. The video showcases the theme for E. Honda, titled “Kumadori” and follows another (which I missed, so I’m just adding it here) for Dhalsim, titled “The Great Sunlight.” As usual, both themes are completely new and composed for the upcoming game. That being said, given the nature of both characters, who are strongly linked to the traditions of their respective countries, these sound perhaps more familiar than other theme tracks created for other characters....
