After recently meeting its funding goal on Kickstarter, the future is looking bright for Seablip. Described as a real-time tactical RPG with a story-driven narrative, players will find themselves putting together a ragtag crew and hitting the high seas. Seablip’s creator is heavily influenced by Stardew Valley — and it shows in most aspects of the game’s design. There’s still a ways to go until its targeted late 2021 release date, but thanks to its Kickstarter campaign we already know a lot about what to expect when it eventually releases....

SEGA Europe has announced it has entered into a publishing deal with Two Point Studios. Two Point is headed by Gary Carr and Mark Webley, both industry veterans who worked at Lionhead Studios and Bullfrog Productions, and is currently working on a new IP. Carr said of the deal, ‘We are really excited to be working with SEGA and between us we feel confident that we can create something special, and realise our vision of crafting a beautiful, charming and challenging sim game....

Sega may be looking at launching a mini version of its 1998 console; the Sega Dreamcast if comments by Sega Japan creative producer Yosuke Okunari are anything to go by. Mr Okunari was speaking in an interview with Japanese publication Famitsu (spotted by Ryokutya2089 and translated by Siliconera) in which he was talking about the recent launch of the Game Gear Micro earlier this year, and asked on what mini-consoles the team might work on next....

Shadow of the Tomb Raider has entered the UK Charts at number two, although physical sales of Lara Croft’s trinket-pinching sequel are down 70% over the Tomb Raider reboot released back in 2013. It’s worth noting that that sequel probably sold a lot more digital copies than the original Tomb Raider, simply because the popularity of physical sales has waned in the past five years. However, despite Shadow of the Tomb Raider launching on multiple formats, it only just managed to beat 2015’s Rise of the Tomb Raider, which launched initially on Xbox One only....

As announced at San Diego Comic-Con, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is finally getting around to introducing the REAL Mandarin to moviegoers with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. This was exciting news for Hall H, but it was also puzzling information: Isn’t the Mandarin an Iron Man villain? Wasn’t he in Iron Man 3? Why are they moving him over to Shang-Chi? It’s a long-ish story that start in Vietnam and runs through Afghanistan, before it starts its next chapter at Marvel Studios....

UPDATE: Skate 3 is now backward compatible with Xbox One, Microsoft has confirmed. ORIGINAL REPORT: Skate 3 is now available on Xbox One backward compatibility, according to a leak on the Xbox 360 dashboard, suggesting the game could be due to hit Microsoft’s back compat list later today. The message (pictured above) was spotted by Reddit user SanitaryGecko, and states “Now on Back Compat: Play Skate 3”. I’ve just booted up our Xbox 360 to have a look and can confirm that the message is right there in the middle of the home screen....

If you’ve been looking to get your sniping fix in virtual reality, then you only have a month to wait. Sniper Elite VR finally has its release date set in stone. The game will be available on Steam VR, Oculus Rift, and Oculus Quest on July 8. The game is a first-person shooter, which isn’t surprising because it’s VR. It’s not a lazy port of existing Sniper Elite content shoved into a VR package, either....

Indie developer Jumpship has shown off some more of mysterious sci-fi adventure Somerville in a brand new trailer. Shown off during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase, the game will take place in the aftermath of what seems to be an alien invasion. As the description reads: “In the wake of catastrophe you must find the means to make your family whole again. Somerville is a Sci-Fi adventure grounded in the intimate repercussions of large scale conflict....

Sony’s annual PlayStation press conference at the Tokyo Game Show on September 15 at 8am UK time. The news was confirmed on the Japanese PlayStation blog. Sony is the only one of the big three hosting a conference, with Microsoft and Nintendo once again skipping the show. Fans will be hoping to hear more information on titles such as The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy 15, as well as new game announcements....

Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed production of PlayStation 4 Pro models and all but one model of the original “slim” PlayStation 4 consoles has come to an end in Japan reportedly so that factories can focus on the manufacture of PlayStation 5. According to Japanese publication Game Watch (and helpfully translated/reported by Video Games Chronicle) the only version of the PlayStation 4 that will continue to be manufactured going forward is the baseline Jet Black 500GB models, meaning all other models including the 1TB and PlayStation 4 Pro will no longer be available in Japan once the current stock is sold out....

A new collection of PlayStation 5 accessories will be hitting the market soon. These are all part of the grey camouflage collection, which Sony says will “bring a fresh unique aesthetic into play”. Gamers with offensive PSD IDs will see them changed automatically by Sony, following the announcement all PlayStation owners had been waiting for. Sony revealed this week that all users will have one free opportunity to change their PSN ID, finally removing the burden of embarrassment on many longtime players going by the ill-advised names they were wishing they’d waited a bit later to decide on. So yes, you can finally change that corny name you’ve been touting for years while struggling over whether or not you should just create a new account and lose all of your trophies....

Thunderful and Carry Castle have announced that cosmic horror action RPG Source of Madness will launch on May 11. First announced back in June of 2020, the game throws you into an alternate reality ruled by cosmic entities. Their influence has left the Loam Lands warped, distorted and full of grotesque horrors that you, naturally, have to take down by journeying to the evil’s source. And so off you pop on a journey through nine twisted biomes with delightful names such as the Dungeon of Forgotten Knowledge and the Forest of Lies....

South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker originally wanted to call South Park: The Fractured But Whole ‘South Park: The Butthole of Time’, but were forced to change it after being told that retailers wouldn’t put the game on the shelf. “It was originally called The Butthole of Time. They ran it past the whatever and said you can’t put Butthole of Time,” Parker said in a new vidoc released this weekend....

Having churned out a few classics early in the show’s run, and nailed some topical ones more recently, Matt Stone and Trey Parker clearly have a hell of a lot of fun coming up with seasonal episodes. They often show a love for the horror genre–The Shining parody in “A Nightmare on FaceTime” was a high point–and are willing to mix in some surprises–Korn’s guest appearance, Satan’s birthday attendees, and Randy doing crack last year–to get us in the holiday spirit....
