Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka says that 2022 was “the biggest year in Sonic history” for fans of the blue blur. But as well as referencing the game’s movie sequel, Netflix show, and Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers - all of which dropped in 2022, of course - Iizuka teased that there was “a lot more outside of that” still to come, too. “This past year was the biggest year in Sonic history, including the release of the movie sequel, new titles Sonic Origins and Sonic Frontiers, and the Netflix animation Sonic Prime,” Sonic Team’s Iizuka told Famitsu (thanks, Gematsu and Nintendo Life)....

The probably-gonna-be-terrible Sonic the Hedgehog movie has cast X-Men and Westworld star James Marsden, reports Variety. Previous rumours this week had attached Ant-Man star Paul Rudd in the lead role, although this is apparently no longer the case. There’s no word yet on who Marsden will play in the film, though presumably it’ll involve a lot of running. Sonic the Hedgehog will be a hybrid of live-action and animation and is scheduled to hit cinemas on November 15, 2019....

Sony is confident that the forthcoming PS Vita will win the hearts of core gamers, stating: “If you care about games, you’re going to want a Vita.” At last week’s Develop in Liverpool conference, VideoGamer.com spoke to Michael Denny, senior vice president, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Europe, to discuss his hopes for the new handheld. “Our mission, our vision, is that we now have a portable gaming system that is going to be massively appealing to gamers – initially core gamers, but then a wider sense of gamers going forward,” he said....

Today Atlus released one of its daily trailers of its upcoming JRPG Soul Hackers 2, focusing on one of the demons included in the game. Today Square Enix announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, from April to December 2021. Below you can find the relevant figures, with net sales for the whole company grew by 7.9% year-on-year and operating income grew by 22.2％. The Digital Entertainment business, which includes video games, had its net sales grow by 4% year-on-year, while operating income grew by 17.1% year-on-year. This is rather remarkable considering that by the mid-point of the fiscal year, both the whole company and the digital entertainment segment had sales and operating income dropping year-on-year....

Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl developer GSC Game World has refuted claims that its game has been further delayed after Xbox began issuing refunds for pre-orders. Earlier this week, those who pre-ordered Stalker 2 began receiving messages informing them that their orders had been cancelled due to the fact that Stalker 2’s release date has been pushed back to an “unconfirmed date in the future”. At the same time, the pre-order option on the Xbox store was disabled....

Electronic Arts has confirmed details on the voice cast behind the upcoming Clone Wars content for Star Wars Battlefront II, and it’s good news for fans of the animated TV show. Capcom announced that the upcoming Street Fighter 6 won’t just arrive on consoles and PC, but it’ll also go back to its origins and get an arcade version. According to the press release sent by the Japanese arm of the developer, the arcade version will be distributed by Square Enix subsidiary Taito. There is no launch date just yet, but it’ll come in 2023. At the moment, we don’t know if it’ll appear in the dwindling western arcades, or only in Japan, where the scene is still vital....
