Even though Sony PlayStation CEO, Jack Tretton, appears in humorous (and self-referential) commercials with faux-spokesperson Kevin Butler, doesn’t mean that he can’t offer up headline-worthy zingers about the competition. This time the Sony executive is dismissing Nintendo’s stranglehold on the handheld market and Microsoft’s continued success with console gamers by saying the companies produce “babysitting tools” or technology that is “starting to run on steam,” respectively. Hot on the heels of a quotable conversation with FastCompany, where Tretton asserted that consumers know that new technology is expensive, the PlayStation chief is once again defending the company’s ten year console life-cycle - as well as poking fun at the competition....

Today Atlus released its daily trailer of the upcoming JRPG Soul Hackers 2, focusing on one of the locations that will be featured in the game. This time we get to take a look at COMP Smith. As the name suggests, it’s a store where you can upgrade your COMPs, which are basically the main weapons and summoning devices in the game. Like most daily trailers, we also get the daily horoscope, which sees Capricorn at the top of the fortune ranking and Gemini at the bottom....

Space Force, as created by sitcom master Greg Daniels, decides to go for one anyway. The Spider-Man: Miles Morales launch trailer is here, setting the table for the upcoming web-slinging adventure from Insomniac ahead of its launch later this week. The trailer, which you can see below, gives us a glimpse of Miles’ story which will take place after the events of 2018’s Spider-Man with characters returning characters such as (of course) Peter Parker and old foe Rhino as well as new faces such as Miles’ best friend Ganke Lee and his mother, Rio Morales....

As all gamers know, licensed titles are generally something to be super wary about. You look at something like that South Park FPS from 1998 (that saw the player throwing pee-soaked snowballs at turkeys) or Superman 64, and you think, no thanks, developers. You can keep them. This isn’t the case with all such games, naturally. South Park: The Stick of Truth and the Arkham games show just how strong licensed fare can be....

Dissidia Final Fantasy NT will not be updated from this point forward, but Team Ninja and Square Enix will continue to ensure the game is playable online (via Twitter). As an arena fighter that features a roster of Final Fantasy heroes and villains, Dissidia Final Fantasy NT was a port of an arcade game which was then released for PC and PlayStation 4 in 2018. Sadly, the home version didn’t enjoy the same success as its original, and met with mixed reviews and a poor commercial performance....

Drew Karpyshyn, a writer whose works include titles like Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and Jade Empire, has announced that he will join Archetype Entertainment as the studio’s lead writer. “I’m proud to announce that I’m the lead writer for Archetype Entertainment,” says Karpyshyn via a blog post. “Founded by James Ohlen – the creative genius behind BioWare hits like Baldur’s Gate, KOTOR, and Dragon Age – Archetype is a new video game studio under the Wizards of the Coast umbrella… and I haven’t been this excited to work on a project in a long, long time!...

Eric Barone, the creator of the successful farming sim Stardew Valley, mentioned that he’s got new projects in the pipeline and two of them are Stardew Valley spinoffs (via VG247). Barone was quick to clarify that the projects are not ready to be shown off any time soon. “I want to avoid too much hype or speculation. I’d like to just make whatever game comes naturally to me without too much pressure or expectation,” he added....

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will not feature a multiplayer mode or come with any microtransactions, says Respawn Entertainment head, Vince Zampella. The specifics surrounding the upcoming release were revealed during the Star Wars Celebration in Chicago on Saturday afternoon - and there was obviously quite a lot to discuss. Given the way games are being made nowadays, it was probably expected that this new Star Wars title would give players the option of competing against each other via a multiplayer mode....

June’s PlayStation 5 reveal event aimed at showing fans “the future of gaming” had many show stoppers but few caught my attention like Stray, a new title from French studio BlueTwelve and publisher Annapurna Interactive. The third-person adventure game is not only set in a futuristic city populated by quirky robots who emulate human activities but it stars an adorable cat. Players will roam this street as this stray feline as he solves the mysteries of this peculiar setting....

After it was revealed at this year’s EVO that Street Fighter 5 would be receiving three extra characters, it very much seemed like one last push before Capcom would retire the title, which wouldn’t be surprising given that it’s been three years since its initial release and fans are hungry for a sequel. But this is, in fact, not the case, as it has now been confirmed that more characters are on the way, and we won’t have long to wait to find out who they are....

For what feels like a decade now checks calendar OK literally almost a decade as GTA V was released back in 2013, rumors and speculation has swirled about GTA VI. Today, Rockstar confirmed that active development on the next GTA game is underway. No details were given about the game, they never said the words GTA VI, nor did they confirm how long the game has been in development. But, all that said, Rockstar is taking the big step of at least acknowledging the existence of a new GTA game, squashing any beliefs that there would never be another new GTA game and that GTA Online through GTA V was the future....

Bungie has just started full development of the as-yet unannounced Destiny 3, according to a well-known series tipster on Reddit. There’s no word on a release date for the next full-fledged chapter in Bungie’s shared-world shooter franchise, but it’ll apparently continue to expand towards the hardcore Destiny crowd by further embracing RPG elements. Destiny 3 Guardians will reportedly be able to wield the power of the Darkness (the mysterious entity, not the band fronted by Justin Hawkins), so presumably that will mean new superpowers....

SCS has proven itself over the years that it really likes to pay attention to details when it comes to crafting scenery for the worlds of American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. The team is once again doing just so with the upcoming Idaho expansion for American Truck Simulator. In a recent blog post, the developers show off special red signs that will be posted throughout the new part of the map....

Sea of Thieves is moving to what could now be described as “traditional” seasonal updates, from its old monthly method. That means less frequent updates that contain more content, as Rare takes extra time to deliver the goods. It’s no real surprise updates are slowing down though, given the game has been out since March of 2018. Anyway, the developer is here to give a rundown on how the new seasons will work in Sea of Thieves....

A new batch of screenshots for Seasons After Fall have been released showing off the game’s gorgeous 2D visuals. Seasons After Fall from developer Swing Swing Submarine and publisher Focus Home Interactive sees players taking control of a wild fox with mystical powers which enable it to manipulate the life of the forest by changing the seasons. Summon Winter to freeze a waterfall to pass, or call for Spring to make plants and flowers bloom....

Lat month, Sega celebrated its 60th anniversary with a suite of free content and minigames. The four games, offered free of charge, were influenced by some of the publisher’s best and most famous franchises. Well, a couple of them were, anyway. The standout offering, however, was clearly Streets of Kamurocho. The pixelated beat ’em up mashed together two of Sega’s best: Yakuza and Streets of Rage. It was short, but oh, so sweet....
