Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has been waxing lyrical about the pre-sales of the PlayStation 5 so far ahead of the next-gen console’s launch next month, claiming that the company sold as many consoles in 12 hours as the entire first 12 weeks of the PlayStation 4. The comments came in an interview with Rueters, where Ryan also said: “The demand as expressed by the level of pre-order has been very, very considerable,” and also mentioned “It may well be that not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one....

If one trailer a day of Soul Hackers 2 was not enough, today Atlus released another extensive one, providing a deeper look at the gameplay features of the upcoming JRPG. The first segment is dedicated to the safe house and meals. In the safe house, you can receive some of the items purchased by DLC, on top of having meals with your friends after purchasing them at various stores. Since meals increase various stats, it’s a good idea to have a meal to prepare before facing a dungeon....

Spotify will remain exclusive to PlayStation platforms “for the foreseeable” future, Sony has revealed. The music streaming service, which launches on PS4 and PS3 today, allows console owners to stream their Spotify playlists directly through their console. However, it won’t be coming to Xbox One, Xbox 360 or Wii U any time soon, Sony suggests. Speaking to Eurogamer, UK marketing director Murray Pannell explained that while the exclusivity period is still “to be decided exactly”, it will only be available on PlayStation platforms “for the foreseeable [future]”....

Square Enix, which raised eyebrows last year with its unflinching stance on NFTs and blockchain, has further affirmed its plans to focus in on the controversial technology this year. Meanwhile, it is steadily ending support for a selection of its games, making the company’s offerings a much leaner dish for consumers (and perhaps potential buyers?). In his recent New Year’s letter, Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda stated 2023 will be a year of “major evolution and transformation” for the company, with “multiple blockchain games based on original IPs under development” at this time....

The launch of Google Stadia is now just a few days away, and while the ability to stream games straight to a television without the addition of bulky hardware seems novel, it appears that the service will be missing some key features at launch. The core of the service will still be available, but it may not be as feature-complete as many were hoping for. Google’s Andrey Doronichev took to Reddit in a Stadia AMA, offering an update as to what fans can expect from the service when it launches on November 19th....

Going purely by its insanely long title, you’d think Stay Cool, Kobayashi-san!: A River City Ransom Story would be yet another solid game in the River City aka Kunio-Kun series. There would be high school students, street gangs, shops to visit, butts to kick, all the classic staples of an entry in the long-running beat ’em up franchise. While this does have high school students and it is a beat ’em up, that’s where the connections to the series end....

UPDATE: It looks like it just took the system a few days to work. Recent review scores are back up to where they were before the review bombs started, so expect future bombs to only last a few days. The new anti-review bomb system implemented by Steam last month doesn’t seem to be working as users bomb the older Borderlands series due to Borderlands 3 going Epic exclusive. Last month, Valve implemented a new system for Steam that was supposed to prevent review bombs from affecting a game’s overall user review score....

Publisher Nacon has released a new trailer for RoboCop: Rogue City, and revealed that Peter Weller will reprise his role. Weller took the role in the original film, RoboCop, in 1987, and RoboCop 2, in 1990. But he wasn’t in RoboCop 3, in which the role went to Robert Burke. So it’s pretty cool that Weller is returning to the role here. (It is worth pointing out, though, that Weller had already returned to the role for Mortal Kombat 11....

Rocket League is getting a new CS:GO-style ‘crate’ system that will let players unlock additional items for a fee, Psyonix has revealed. While the first official details on the system aren’t set to be revealed until the Rocket League Championship Series finals next month, info posted by Psyonix VP Jeremy Dunham on Reddit confirms that the crates will only contain cosmetic items, and that the developer has no intention of integrating Steam Marketplace support....

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a big game for many reasons, among which is its incredibly large roster. Over 60 characters have been confirmed. In Nintendo’s recent direct, the company confirmed Simon Belmont and King K. Rool as new fighters. Also, Richter, Dark Samus, and Chrom were announced as Echo Fighters. More newcomers will presumably be announced before December 7th. Interestingly, as translated by Nintendo Everything from the Japanese publication Famitsu, series creator Masahiro Sakurai stated that the starting roster would be the characters seen in the first Super Smash Bros....
