It’s easy to assume that Solar Ash is a sequel to Hyper Light Drifter. It’s got the same developer, it’s set in the same universe, and the main character also has an energy sword. But that’s mostly where the similarities end. Instead of focusing on action, the game is all about platforming, exploration, and dashing forward at high speeds. Some HLD fans will no doubt be disappointed by this, and the game could certainly have used a bit more depth and variety....
Cam Clarke and David Hayter, otherwise known as the voices behind Solid and Liquid Snake, have teamed up to record a festive-themed poem, the Night Before Metal Gear. It’s pretty much exactly what it says on the tin. Both voice actors reading a poem, in character as the iconic Twin Snakes. Hayter even wears a Santa hat in the video and Clarke has strapped on some reindeer horns. Lovely stuff.
Rumours are abound that we might be getting a remaster of 2010 Nintendo Wii title Sonic Colours (AKA Sonic Colors depending on your region) later this year following a couple of listings showing up over the weekend. As first reported by Gematsu, German voiceover studio iksample listed a “Sonic Colors Remastered” in its portfolio on its website, which at the time of writing has since gone into maintainence mode. However, this was then later joined by a listing on French retailer Sogamely, who marked the as-yet-unannounced title as releasing on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch at some point in 2021....

Speaking during an interview with Famitsu magazine (via Gematsu), Sony’s Hiroyuki Oda confirmed that the format holder has no plans to launch a successor to the PlayStation Vita. Furthermore, Oda-san revealed that Sony will be ceasing PS Vita production in Japan from next year. Presumably the US and Europe will follow too, although there’s been no statement on its plans for western regions yet. ‘Currently, we do not have any plans regarding a new handheld device,’ he said....
One thing that irks me in narrative games is when you’re given only the broadest categories when selecting your character’s responses. Think LA Noir, where choosing a certain response could give you far more — or far less — of the emotion you were anticipating. South of the Circle is undoubtedly a fantastically written, absorbing story, but it actually gets the dialogue choices worse. However, it has a striking art style, brimming with memorable moments with events framed in ways that make the game almost akin to digital artwork....
Undertale is known for its incredible soundtrack, which has apparently caught the attention of a TV producer in Spain who decided to use “Megalovania” in a reality show. First Dates is a reality show that is filmed in a London restaurant, where strangers go on dates for the first time. The format of the show is simple enough that it has been adapted in several different languages, with versions of First Dates being broadcast in seventeen different countries outside of the UK....

While Thrawn Alliances is technically a sequel to 2017’s Thrawn, it also works well as an enjoyable extension of the Star Wars animated canon. Respawn Entertainment has released a new update for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order that adds a couple of much-requested features to the third person action game. Chief of these is the addition of a new Photo Mode, which can be accessed by pressing in both control sticks at any time. Like any good Photo Mode worth its salt, it includes a range of options for getting those fancy screenshots of Cal and friends such as zoom, tilt, exposure, hiding the player and enemy character models as well as filters like Film Grain and placing a spotlight....

It’s no surprise to anyone who plays video games that Rockstar Games makes products that are filled with a lot of mature content. The Grand Theft Auto series, Manhunt series, and the recently released Red Dead Redemption all embody that point very clearly. Obviously, M-rated games aren’t made for children, yet still parents will often buy them for their children. Rockstar’s own Lazlow, a writer and producer for GTA, has lashed out at parents who buy their games for children, calling them “terrible parents”....
Earlier this month, Rockstar confirmed the end of any major support for Red Dead Online, with the developer shifting its focus to Grand Theft Auto 6. This left many cowboys disappointed (to put it mildly), to the extent an in-game funeral was held to mourn this loss.
