Take-Two Interactive has re-registered trademarks for a project titled “Judas,” sparking speculation that a new game is in development (via GameSpot). These “Judas” trademarks were originally registered in April 2016, and Take-Two requested extensions on the trademark til November 2019. The record shows that they were re-registered again on May 11, and the details have stayed the same since 2016: “entertainment services, namely, providing online games, providing a website featuring computer games and video games, and news, information, tips, hints, contests, computer interface themes, enhancements, audio-visual content, music, films, videos, television programs, animated series, and other multimedia materials in the field of computer games and video games; providing information, news and commentary in the field of computer games and video games....

Publisher Perfect World have been wielding the axe on more than just Motiga today; Runic Games are also being shut down. The developers of the Torchlight series had only recently released puzzle-platformer Hob. Formed in 2008 by Blizzard North co-founders Max Schaefer and Erich Schaefer, along with Fate creator Travis Baldree (who departed in 2014), Runic were best known for aRPGs Torchlight and Torchlight 2. Given the Schaefer’s experience working on the original Diablo, that’s not too surprising....

Platinum Games’ dragon action game Scalebound for Xbox One and Windows 10 has been cancelled by publisher Microsoft. The platform holder released a brief statement on the game’s website. “Today, I have a difficult announcement to share that affects our fans, Microsoft Studios team and a valued partner. After careful deliberation, we have come to the decision to end production for Scalebound. This decision was not made lightly,” reads the statement....
Publisher Kwalee and developer Damage State have unveiled bullet-hell FPS Scathe, coming to consoles and PC later this year. EA have announced another indie project acquired under its ‘EA Originals’ publishing partnership, Jo-Mei’s Sea of Solitude. This title joins the previously-revealed Fe in the program (Unravel, while basically part of a similar partnership, came out before EA Originals had a name). Sea of Solitude has been getting coverage since at least 2015, and at one time was listed as an episodic project. I’m not sure whether that’s the case any more, as there’s no mention of this in EA’s announcement....

Overwatch League team Seoul Dynasty has officially canceled its upcoming homestand. First announced on the Overwatch League’s official Twitter account, the event has been canceled to protect the health and safety of players. This is very likely in response to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak, of which over 600 cases have been reported in South Korea. Square Enix has announced that The Nightmare, the fourth slice of DLC for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, will launch on January 22. You could forgive the team at Platinum if they built their debut in the 2D shooter genre from the conventions of bullet hell. The style made famous by Toaplan, Cave and their peers, after all, is often projected as the genre’s higher form, with its preference for excess commonly dazzling players, collectors and press alike. All of that might make bullet hell particularly appealing to a studio more typically focussed on energetic, happily excessive triple-A action games....
