EA has announced that a Star Wars Battlefront II multiplayer beta will be coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC, starting on October 4 for those who pre-order the game, and a couple of days later for those who don’t. Featuring 20 v 20 battles, and even space fighting in memorable starfighter battles, it sure does look like heaps of fun. In this beta, you’ll be able to take your ‘favourite heroes’ into battle on the large scale 20 v 20 Galactic Assault mode on Theed City, fighting alongside (and against) Republic clone troopers and battle droids on the streets surrounding the royal palace....

Star Wars: Battlefront will not feature microtransactions enabling players to purchase in-game currency, DICE design director Niklas Fegraeus has told GameSpot. Battlefront utilises both points and in-game credits, with the latter used to rent high-end weaponry. This would seem to lend itself to microtransactions on in-game credits, but DICE says this isn’t the case. “The currency system is based on your game performance,” Fegraeus explained. “The credits that you use to buy things in the game are earned....

Devolver Digital and developer No Code are launching new Stranger Things-esque game Stories Untold with a free live event on February 27. Stories Untold is a four episode long ‘narrative thriller’, including a remaster of No Code’s previous narrative horror game The House Abandon. The event is being held at Loading Bar in Dalston (of course it is, because it is a games event taking place in London) and will feature ‘hosts’ which the attendees must help get through ‘the unknown horrors of Stories Untold’....

Creators of The Messenger Sabotage Studio have announced that turn based RPG Sea of Stars will be heading to Nintendo Switch when it launches in Holiday 2022. As previously revealed back in 2020, the game will be a prequel to the 2018 platformer, but you won’t need to know that game’s story to follow the plot. You’ll play as Valere and Zale, two youths fated to become the Solstice Warriors. They have powers of the sun and moon, which together combine to form Eclipse Magic....

Slime Rancher 2’s Gordo are giant slime which can be found in out of the way locations. Finding them is the first part of the puzzle. After that, you’ll need to get them out of the way by feeding them, making them (harmlessly!) explode into smaller slimes - a useful way to find specific slime locations in a pinch. Sega has released a new free update for puzzler Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 that brings the Sega mascot Sonic the Hedgehog to the game in addition to an all new Boss Raid mode. As is apt for the Blue Blur, his ability in Skill Battle mode changes all Puyos to the colour blue. As well as him, the update also brings two other characters in the form of Ms. Accord who can clear the board of Garbage Puyos, Lidelle who can change Garbage Puyos to a different colour and The Ocean Prince who has the ability to align any pieces on the board....

Sony is going to be sharing even more PlayStation titles with PC users come spring. In an interview with GQ, Sony Interactive Entertainment President Jim Ryan revealed that “a whole slate” of PlayStation games are heading to PC in just a few months. Kicking off the fun will be a PC port of Bend Studio’s hit survival game, Days Gone. For quite a while, Sony refused to put first-party PlayStation titles on PC....

Insomniac has announced that the patch to transfer your saved game progress from the PlayStation 4 version of Spider-Man to the recently released Spider-Man: Remastered for the PlayStation 5 is now available. To use it, all you have to do is update your game on PlayStation 4 and boot it up (if you’re running the game via backwards compatbility on your PlayStation 5, you may need to restart the console first)....

A Team Fortress 2 mod group has released Squid Fortress, a new Splatoon inspired mod which appears to do a pretty good job at bringing the ink and squid gameplay to Valve’s classic team shooter. The same group is also working on a host of Splatoon character models. It’s certainly not a bad effort and will only get better over time. This is the second Splatoon mod which has made its way to PC, following on from the hugely impressive version of the game made for Minecraft....

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Ubisoft’s much-loved (but distressingly absent) Splinter Cell series, and to mark the occasion the publisher has shared a smattering of concept art for its upcoming - but still “very early” in development - remake. All this comes via a special 20th anniversary developer roundtable video, culminating in a look at the future of the franchise. There’s a brief mention of the Netflix animated series - which was announced last June and is still in the works despite radio silence since then - and, of course, a bit on the eagerly anticipated Splinter Cell reboot....

Square Enix is heading to E3 in a big way, unveiling new details about their summer showcase, Square Enix Presents. The showcase will go live at 3:15 PM ET as a keynote during E3 this year. Fans of the publisher can expect a variety of new games and experiences from the event. Updates for previously announced projects and new titles altogether are headlining this fully virtual showcase. Square Enix will cover four different games during the event....

Square Enix dropped the opening movie for Final Fantasy VII Remake, and it looks stunning (via Destructoid). It pans over Midgar, showing off its heaving industry and rattling highways, and the people who make their way through its narrow, alleys and towering buildings. Aerith sits enraptured watching the Mako leak from a pipeline, and Cloud and co. take over the train on its way to the Shinra Corporation, thereby setting the scene for the first playable moments of the game....

Luke is right, of course. When Rey confronts Ben on Supreme Leader Snoke’s flagship, Supremacy, she discovers an ambush. Snoke had in fact manipulated a still impressionable and emotionally distressed Kylo into luring Rey to the ship by creating a sort of Force channel between the two....

Fortnite will host a special screening of a new clip from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. According to in-game posters spread throughout Fortnite‘s map, this premiere will begin at Risky Reels drive-in theater at 1:30 pm EST on December 14th. The actual clip apparently won’t be screened until about 30 minutes later, so you should have plenty of time to find a seat and settle in. Well…assuming the servers hold....

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2: The Sith Lords is out now on Nintendo Switch and DLC is set for release in Q3 this year. The Sith Lords Restored Content DLC will be available for free and adds in extra content that was cut from the original Xbox release of the game. However, the DLC won’t be compatible with base game save files, explains developer Aspyr. “You will need to start a new game with the DLC content enabled to access the additional content, however after the DLC releases and you still wish to finish your non-DLC playthrough, you can access those base game save files by disabling the DLC in the in-game main menu,” the studio said in a tweet....
