A number of first party PlayStation 4 titles have reportedly been given performance-enhancing patches ahead of the release of the PlayStation 5, with some such as The Last of Us: Remastered offering a massive increase in loading times. Though no official statement has been made by Sony, YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits (as reported by VideoGamesChronicle) has posted a comparison video showing The Last of Us: Remastered running unpatched versus its most recent patch, showing the game loading over a minute and ten seconds faster to the opening sequence from the menu than it did at retail....

The latest trailer for the upcoming live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie showed off the new design for Sega’s blue mascot and it has undeniably received a far better reception than the original one. But while it as renewed some peoples’ faith in the movie, others are still highly skeptical of Sonic’s new look, including his own creator, Yuji Naka. When the first trailer was released, Sonic’s design was the biggest sticking point with audiences and was relentlessly mocked and described as being unnatural and creepy....

Nintendo has released another mini-Direct that was focused on Splatoon 2, which is coming soon to the Nintendo Switch. The Direct unveiled some new features in the game, as well as bringing back some of the best parts of the original Splatoon. StarCraft II’s prologue missions Whispers of Oblivion are now free to all players, Blizzard has announced. Previously included as part of the Legacy of the Void Beta, the prologue offers up three campaign missions focussing on Zeratul and serve to bridge the story between Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void. Psyonix has announced that Rocket League’s much-requested cross-platform party support will roll out as part of the game’s summer update in July or August. This feature does what it says on the tin: You can play Rocket League with players regardless of what platform they’re using (as long as it’s supported via cross-play, naturally) and also make friends with users on other consoles. Cross-platform party works simple enough. You register an in-game id comprised of a name and a unique code, after which you can then add players from other formats by punching in their id into the new friends list....

A GTA Hollywood movie was once turned down by president of Rockstar Games Sam Houser. The information was revealed by Kirk Ewing on the BBC Sounds podcast Bugzy Malone’s Grandest Game, in which the rapper talks about the impacts the GTA series had on him. Sony’s seemingly interminable behind-the-scenes endeavor to expand its Spider-Man-centric (Marvel Cinematic Universe-adjacent) big screen arena has taken a major step with the hiring of a prolific voice in genre television, S.J. Clarkson. A secret Marvel movie is reportedly in focus over at Sony Pictures, and Variety reports that the studio has signed Clarkson—a veteran of genre television shows, notably Marvel’s Jessica Jones and The Defenders—to develop and direct. Ukraine-based studio GSC Game World has confirmed it’s pressing pause on development of the upcoming S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl as its staff deal with the ongoing invasion of their country by Russia. The team confirmed the news in a brief video to concerned fans worried about the team’s well-being last night. Originally, the studio had intended to showcase some of their motion capture work for the upcoming game’s cutscenes. However, plans quickly changed as Russian forces attacked the Ukraine capital of Kyiv, where GSC Game World is based....
