The only word to describe the San Diego Comic-Con trailer for Star Trek: Picard is: surprising. It’s surprising partly because so many of the twists are, of course, connected to nostalgia about Star Trek in general. This Star Wars: The Mandalorian review contains spoilers. Star Wars: The Mandalorian Episode 3 In episode 3, directed by Deborah Chow and written by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian finds its stride. To be precise, that stride is a lope, suitable for either a standoff or a long walk. The episode contains both lingering, clear-eyed scene-setting and several distinct action scenes, all paced well. This is the best episode so far, still derivative (or classic Star Wars, choose your flavor) but entertaining, with a keen sense of what expected beats to push back on and which to embrace....

Electronic Arts has officially earned a Guinness World Record for Star Wars Battlefront 2. Though it’s not a world record that it’s likely to publicize anytime soon. The record is related to the now-infamous controversy tied to Star Wars Battlefront 2’s loot boxes. In the midst of the controversy, an EA representative posted to Reddit justifying the publisher’s loot box strategy. That post became the most downvoted comment in Reddit’s history, a record unlikely to be broken in the foreseeable future....

Sega has opened up on its secretive “Super Game” initiative, and rather than one game, it looks to be encapsulating to several different games, some of which will include cloud and NFT technology. In an interview with Sega Japan’s recruitment website and translated by our friends at VGC, several Sega executives explained that to qualify under the Super Game banner, the new projects must be “multi-platform, global multi-language development, simultaneous worldwide release, and AAA titles”....

Sony has revealed the latest games to be added to its subscription service PlayStation Now, and they include the highly anticipated and gaudy Shadow Warrior 3. Users will be able to choose from four news games to sink their teeth into from today. Along with Shadow Warrior 3, PS Now subscribers will also be able to enjoy Crysis Remastered, Relicta and Chicken Police - Paint It Red. Sony’s head of PlayStation Indies Shuhei Yoshida has said PS Plus should be used by publishers to manage the lifecycle of a game. Speaking at GI Live: London (thanks GamesIndustry.biz), Yoshida discussed Sony’s approach to a subscription service, reiterating that the company still believes in the “premium release of a title at launch”. Yet with PS Plus, Sony is offering a different approach as added value to developers and publishers....

Sports Story, the sequel to role-playing sports adventure title, Golf Story, has been delayed. “We want to take some more time to work on Sports Story and ensure that everything makes it into the game,” explained Sidebar Games, and expressed that it is “sad” that the game won’t arrive when it was originally planned. “The game has become rather ambitious and we are excited about how it could turn out. But the price is currently being paid as we try to make our plans into reality,” it continued in its post to Twitter, and added that it is “eager to reveal the results” of its tireless efforts....

Farfetch’d endured a long and terrible run as one of the worst Pokémon in the Pokémon video game series, but Pokémon Sword & Shield have finally given Farfetch’d a powerful evolution that has the potential to turn one of worst items in the series into one of the best. There has always been love for the Farfetch’d line from the Pokémon fanbase, as there is something innately silly about a duck using a leek like a sword....

SNK Corporation has announced that SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters Clash is available for the Nintendo Switch from today. The game originally released in two forms on the NeoGeo Pocket Color in 1999 as the SNK Cardfighter’s Version, and the Capcom Cardfighter’s Version. Both of these versions have been combined into one game in the new release. There’s over 300 cards to battle, featuring icons from both publishers. You’ll put classic SNK characters like Terry Bogard, Nakoruru and Marco against Capcom stalwarts like Ryu, Chun Li and Mega Man....

For years, the elevator pitch for Minecraft had been “if Lego were a video game.” It was such a widespread idea that when Lego started making Minecraft-themed sets back in 2014, there were plenty of people who thought the idea was kind of… redundant. And yet, somehow it took until 2019 before someone modded the game to look like its toy-based counterpart. Sony’s got a new patent, and it describes an AI that will help the player if they’re stuck by suggesting they splash out on microtransactions (via All Gamers). Ever get the feeling of déjà vu? Activision did this too, with a “exploratory patent filed in 2015 by an R&D team working independently” from the company. It would pair players together in the hope that one player would see the swishy sword or sniper rifle that another player bought, and “encourage the player to make future purchases to achieve similar gameplay results....

Space station management sim Spacebase Startopia will arrive on the Nintendo Switch next month, publisher Kalypso Media has announced. The game originally launched for PC, Xbox and PlayStation earlier this year. It tasks you with taking care of a whole host of aliens and their needs aboard a doughnut-shaped space station. Tending to their needs across three types of deck – Sub Deck, Bio Deck and Fun Deck players will be busy providing facilities and fun for all aboard....

The different Classes and Gauntlets in Spellbreak all play very differently. This variety makes gameplay diverse, which is excellent.
