The festive season. A time to get together with family and friends and… take to the high seas to loot and plunder. Obviously. So, gather your crew, because Sea of Thieves has just released its latest free content update, the Festival of Giving. October brought the spooky Fort of the Damned, a challenge appropriate for Halloween time. But December provides us with a more festive update. In the Sea of Thieves Festival of Giving, you need to track down and retrieve shipments of gifts lost at sea to earn rewards....

Call off the search party, Search Party is officially coming back! We knew as much already of course. Due to corporate consolidation of media onto streaming services, Search Party is one of the rare TV series that go to experience the joy of being renewed twice. Back in April of 2018, TBS officially ordered Search Party season 3. Then in 2019, WarnerMedia announced that it would be launching its own Warner-branded streaming service (which would come to be known as HBO Max) and in the process re-confirmed Search Party season 3 for the new service, and then threw a season 4 in there for good measure....

Nintendo Switch owners can now snap up the first batch of SEGA Ages titles for the hybrid platform in the US and UK. The first two games come in the shape of Sonic the Hedgehog and Lightening Force: Quest for the Darkstar, aka Thunder Force IV. Both can be downloaded via the eShop for £5.99/$7.99, and arrive day-and-date with their Japanese counterparts. Sega’s still got plenty more in the pipeline though....

The Senran Kagura series of games has been long-known for its scantily-clad women. Many of the offshoot titles find the core group in various settings, such as a water war on the beach. Recently, the series took to the tables with Senran Kagura Peach Ball releasing on, of all platforms, the Nintendo Switch. On Aug. 14, it will find a new home on PC via Steam. Going balls out In Peach Ball, your goal is to turn the cast of characters back into human form through the power of pinball....

A new Super Mario Bros Movie clip has been released by Nintendo and Illumination. This snappy little number gives us another look at the film’s upcoming power ups, with Mario suiting up as a cat to do battle. It also lets us hear Seth Rogen’s take on Donkey Kong. And, well, it sounds like Seth Rogen. The setting for this little teaser will be familiar with those who have been following the film’s trailers so far....

Fancy some side-scrolling shoot’em up action? Boiling Bolt from developer Persistant Studio has just released on Steam. In this shooter, soldier June is on a mission to save her island against an evil threat. By utilising an array of weaponry such as a Plasma Whip, Thunder Lock, and Warp Launcher, players can tackle five levels with 30 challenges and play three different modes including Arcade, Free run, and One Shot One Kill....

During one of the missions named “I Walk The Line” in Cyberpunk 2077, you will have to make a choice between whose side to choose NetWatch or Voodoo Boys. A NetWatch agent has got two members of the Voodoo Boys gang in control and Placide wants you to rescue them. After making your way through a mall, you will meet the NetWatch agent who will tell you that Placide, Voodoo Boys’ second-in-command is planning to kill you....

EA’s Full Circle studio has dropped some very early gameplay footage of their in-development Skate sequel onto the internet. The footage itself came with the proviso that the team are still hard at work on the skating title. As such, this ‘Pre-Pre-Pre Alpha’ gameplay is a very rough cut with missing textures and all. But it’s shaping up well so far, as we get a glimpse of the game’s city of San Vansterdam, plenty of tricks and traversal and more....

At this point, saying Bethesda’s launch of Fallout 76 has been rough is a big understatement. The game itself is full of bugs and glitches that hinder play, and its lack of human NPCS is a downright crime when compared to past Fallout games. It only gets worse outside of the game. The latest? Bethesda gave a bunch of Youtubers free swag that was meant for buyers of the $200 collector’s edition....

Some Warzone 2 players are desperate to see Shotguns buffed, claiming that because the weapons can’t ‘one tap’ their powers are severely dampened. This comes courtesy of a recent patch, which targeted both the Akimbo pistols, which were running riot, and the shotguns – especially the Bryson 800. The latter now means you’re not able to ‘down’ an enemy with one shot. And it’s left some people pretty dissatisfied on Warzone 2 sub-reddit....

Songs of Conquest is great. Sometimes you know the moment you play something that it’s a belter. You can feel that sense of quality oozing through as soon as you load it up. Since that time, nary a peep has been heard on the device’s state. Well, at least from Sony. THQ’s CEO Brian Ferrell incessantly dropped the name ‘Playstation Arc’ earlier this month when talking about his company’s support for the device during an inverstor’s earnings call; a name-drop that Sony refused to comment on, but have seen fit to register a domain for (playstationarc.com). The device itself has also undergone something of a cosmetic makeover since it’s debut....

Bad news for PlayStation fans who were planning on attending PAX East next week. With the spread of the coronavirus becoming a greater and greater emergency, Sony has decided to not participate at PAX, scrapping its plans to have a major presence at the upcoming event. “Today, Sony Interactive Entertainment made the decision to cancel its participation at PAX East in Boston this year due to increasing concerns related to COVID-19 (also known as “novel coronavirus”),” it wrote in an update on the PlayStation Blog post regarding its original plans for PAX East....

Guerrilla Games’ Horizon: Zero Dawn is coming to PC, as announced by the head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, Hermen Hulst (via PlayStation Blog). There were rumours that the PlayStation 4 exclusive title would be on its way to new platforms, and it wasn’t outside of the realm of possibility. The game uses the Decima engine, which was also used by Death Stranding, which is also coming to PC. In addition, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human have gone over to the Epic Games Store as PC ports, but Horizon: Zero Dawn is the first game from a Sony-owned studio to make the multiplatform leap....

We all probably wish our personalities were more like SpongeBob SquarePants — friendly, selfless, and eternally optimistic — but there’s a good chance that you more readily identify with his easily annoyed, pessimistic neighbor Squidward Tentacles. Squidward has been called the voice of “millenial despair” and the man responsible with imbuing the character with such a relatable malaise, Rodger Bumpass, is happy to voice the animated poster child for existential desperation....

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released about a month ago to mostly positive reception. Though the game did launch with a hefty amount technical hiccups and other issues fans would like to see ironed out, the game’s overall reception was one of pleasant surprise. One of the things that many members of the industry noticed throughout Jedi: Fallen Order’s runtime is its obvious inspirations from many modern games that are popular today....

So, another preview of a Souls-like. Same drill as it ever was. Run around an interconnected world while fighting baddies and using the essence they drop to purchase a paltry upgrade point for health, stamina, or whatever. This one has a bit of a pedigree, though! It’s called Steelrising, which is both generic and nondescript. What a winning combo. Spiders is a French developer that found acclaim for their previous game, Greedfall, which I reviewed....

Retro-inspired FPS Strafe will miss its planned March 28 release on PC, now heading to both PC and PS4 on May 9, developer Pixel Titans and Devolver Digital have announced. The extra weeks are said to be the result of a polygon shortage. “STRAFE® requires over 150,000 meticulously placed polygons to create its bleeding edge graphics,” noted game director Thom Glunt. “Through an unexpected legal entanglement and a series of clerical errors, nearly 25,000 of those polygons arrived late to Pixel Titans world headquarters thus delaying the game by a few weeks....

Tropico, the long-running series of dictatorship simulators, has finally made its way to Android devices. The satirical city-builder puts players in charge of an island nation, making choices about its people, buildings, military, trade, and foreign policy. Its most notable feature is letting players choose whether to run their paradise as a free democratic nation, or to stamp out opposition and rule with an iron fist. It also lets you dress your dictator in whatever way you feel fits your leadership style....
