Developer Volition has detailed its Saints Row reboot’s first major update, saying that while it would have “preferred to be talking about roadmaps and expansions” at this juncture, it will initially be prioritising “improvements over new features”. Saints Row released to a middling reception in August, with its enjoyable open-world zaniness rather dampened by its considerable number of bugs. It’s these that Volition hopes to address in its first major post-launch update in November, explaining in a new blog post, “We know there is still work to do to improve your experience in the game....

As promised last month, a new Shenmue III trailer went up over the weekend from developers Ys Net and Shibuya Productions. Indie developer Fika Productions and publisher Team17 have announced a two-player co-op rougelite named Ship of Fools. The game sees players take the role of the Fools in question, as they sail aboard the ship Stormstrider. They’re on a great voyage in the waters surrounding the Archipelago to plunder treasure and prevent the end of the world. As they go, they’ll have to contend with enemy encounters, looting items on the open sea and more....

As a martial arts game, Sifu is quite good. The combat is varied and crunchy, with animations and sound effects that pop. However, it wasn’t perfect at launch. It famously lacked the option to change the spoken language from English, despite the strong Chinese themes. Also, the camera wasn’t great. Two days ago on May 19 the world of pop culture received terrible news. Kentaro Miura, the legendary creator of the manga Berserk, died at 54 years old on May 6. This not only left the world of anime and manga devastated, but every corner of pop culture. Berserk is one of the most influential pieces of modern fiction. The forthcoming Sonic Mania aims to pull on the heartstrings of those of us who grew up on the Mega Drive games by employing a similar look and feel in the game’s main stages and, as revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the special stages, too.
