We like to try and keep a positive outlook on things here at VideoGamer.com, but last night’s developer AMA held on Reddit in the wake of the recent furore around the game’s microtransactions doesn’t appear to have done much to ease the minds of players of Star Wars Battlefront II. Participating in the AMA were John Wasilczyk, executive producer on the game, design director Dennis Brannvall and Paul Keslin, multiplayer producer at EA DICE....

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, despite being nominated for and winning an impressive number of awards since its release in November 2019, has also received criticism for the excessive amount of glitches in the game. It turns out that developer Respawn Entertainment was aware of the many issues and decided to release the third-person action title anyway. Respawn’s CEO Vince Zampella stated that the company considered delaying the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order but ultimately decided to release the game, bugs intact, in order to get it on shelves in time for the holidays....

Starfield will have a “NASA-Punk” aesthetic, according to its lead artist, Istvan Pely. In an interview on Xbox Wire, which is giving away “exclusive signed Starfield art”, we got to hear more about the team’s artistic process, as well as see artist Mike Butkus “hard at work on Starfield’s Journey Through Space art”, which you can check out below: “Early on in this project when we were trying to establish the overall aesthetic of this game, we sort of coined the term ‘NASA-Punk’ to describe a sci-fi universe that’s a little more grounded and relatable,” says Starfield’s lead artist, Istvan Pely....

Digital Devolver co-founder Graeme Struthers has said that the Steam versus Epic Games Store ‘needs to be reset’ as both distribution platforms have their own advantages and are at different stages in their development (via GameSpot). Epic Games has taken to buying exclusives to destabilise the iron grip that Valve’s Steam store has on the PC game marketplace. In addition, the investment funneled from Epic Games to the developer allows small-scale, independent games to speed up development and add new features or team members to complete their vision....

Street Fighter 5’s planned June update, which includes the upcoming cinematic story mode, will now launch on July 1, Capcom has revealed. The update is highly anticipated by players, including access to all six DLC characters: Alex, Guile, Ibuki, Balrog, Urien and Juri. The latter three are featured in the new Balrog trailer. The official release of these characters will not be until later in the year, but they can be accessed early via Story Mode....

The popular digital playground Roblox has hit a huge milestone - 100 million, monthly active players. This puts Roblox ahead of its competitor, Minecraft, in terms of monthly active users. Earlier today, it was reported by Bloomberg that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) purchased a 5.01% stake in Nintendo Co. This officially makes the PIF Nintendo’s fifth-largest shareholder according to Bloomberg’s data. For those unfamiliar with the Saudi PIF, it’s a state-owned investment fund that was formed in the 1970s. This fund reportedly holds somewhere between $500 billion and $600 billion in assets around the world. Rare will be outlining Sea of Thieves’ “biggest year yet” during a special 2022 preview livestream airing this Thursday, 27th January. This isn’t the first time we’ve heard that phrase, of course; Sea of Thieves executive producer Joe Neate also teased the multiplayer pirate adventure’s “biggest year yet” ahead of 2021 - a claim that seems entirely reasonable in hindsight, given that last year saw Sea of Thieves introducing everything from a sizeable map expansion beneath the waves to a wildly cinematic Pirates of the Caribbean crossover....

The Last of Us and Uncharted 4 concept artist John Sweeney has created an official Shenmue limited edition art print, with proceeds from the sales up until July 17 to be donated to the Shenmue 3 Kickstarter. Sweeney made this print under direction of Cook & Becker and with official license from SEGA. It’s part of a wider idea to create a series of prints that would capture the heart of retro SEGA games and what they meant for the artists and people playing and growing up with them....

Developer Crack Head Games has announced it is beavering away on a new survival horror title for PlayStation 4, PC, Switch, and Xbox One. Silver Chains is currently pencilled in for release in spring 2019, and takes place from a first-person perspective. Apparently, it’ll place a strong emphasis on narrative and exploration, so it sounds very old-school in that respect. It even has a bit of a Resident Evil vibe going for it as you explore a creepy old manor....

Musical rhythm game Trombone Champ launched on Steam last month and quickly gained attention for its with gameplay and visuals of playing the trombone, a more unorthodox instrument than the guitar and drums seen in many Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. The game’s setlist contains mostly classical music like Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony with a few original songs, as it is a smaller title compared to other musical games, but now has one of the hardest songs from any rhythm game thanks to a mod from DerpyChap....

Sega has announced that physical copies of the upcoming Sonic Colours Ultimate have been delayed due to “unforeseen logistical issues.” The company tweeted out the announcement yesterday evening. The delay effects both the standard boxed edition and the game’s limited Keyring editions. Sega has also said that the issue effects all EMEA markets, apart from Australia and New Zealand. Fortunately, the delay doesn’t appear to have effected the digital version of the game at all....

Last night, a new track dropped to promote the Sonic the Hedgehog movie and it is surprisingly good and loaded with talent. Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign, Lil Yachty and Sueco the Child teamed up for “Speed Me Up” for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie soundtrack. It is the first release off the soundtrack and that makes it the de facto theme song of the Sonic movie. The high energy pop rap song is shockingly catchy and has some references that are sure to excite even the most casual of Sonic fans....
