As one would expect, Sony was not pleased with fail0verflow and their new hack that gave users full control over the PlayStation 3. Nor was Sony happy when a hacker named GeoHot took it a step further and released the PS3 root key for public use. A lawsuit followed and while initially it appeared GeoHot and fail0verflow had the potential to win the case on a jurisdictional ground, that is, arguing the case was filed in the wrong place and should therefore be dismissed, it turned out they were not so lucky....

Shuhei Yoshida, known by many as Yosp, has had his official Twitter account hacked by OurMine, the same group which claimed responsibility for the recent Pokemon GO server attack. Yosp’s account has been updated with messages from the hacking group. “Hey, its OurMine,we are testing your security,” reads the first tweet, which was quickly followed by: “You have been hacked by OurMine Team Visit our website to secure yourself https://ourmine.org”...

Sony is set to release two more live service games before the end of this fiscal year, according to a new presentation from exec Jim Ryan. That would take its current slate of live service games to three, following the release of MLB The Show 22 and its Diamond Dynasty mode. The upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive Spider-Man title will let players tinker with time of day and weather conditions after completing the campaign, developer Insomniac Games has revealed. Speaking during a livestream (via DualShockers), the developer said that there are ‘certain things you can set’ once the main story has wrapped, although until this is done the time and weather settings will be predetermined. As it happens, Spider-Man’s campaign takes place over a period of weeks between October and November....

Nintendo has released a video announcing the release date of its new Splatoon 3 Amiibos. There’ll be three figurines going on sale next month: a yellow Inkling, a blue Octoling, and Smallfry. Take a look at the announcement video below to get a closer look at them. If you decide to get one, make sure you get your squid’s worth and scan them into the game in Splatsville. I used to play quite a bit of Splatoon back in the Wii U days but in the end I let Splatoon 2 pass me by because, from what I could gather, it basically looked like the same game with just a few minor changes. After going hands-on with Splatoon 3 at a recent preview event, this new sequel felt pretty similar to how I remember the first game playing. Sure, there’s a new single-player campaign to play through, along with a bunch of new maps for Turf War and Salmon Run, but to my out-of-touch eye the focus for this sequel seems to be on updating and improving what the players already love, rather than revolutionising the game and giving Splatoon fans something new to wrap their fish fingers around....

Starbreeze has jumped onboard Double Fine’s Psychonauts 2 project with an $8 million investment in the project. Double Fine plan on releasing Psychonauts 2 in 2018 and Starbreeze has now become a major investor in the title. Starbreeze will recoup 100% of its investment with an 85% revenue share and drop to 60% once the investment is recouped. Rebellion has announced that the first part of Strange Brigade’s The Thrice Damned DLC campaign, titled Isle of the Dead, is out now on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. The new campaign is split into three chapters, and revolves around a strange set of occurrences in the Mediterranean, which sees the Strange Brigade launching into action once again. You can play it solo or bring along three mates for the ride if you fancy teaming up....

1930s adventurer Strange Brigade is getting a season pass featuring a three-part mini-campaign, developer Rebellion has announced. The season pass will also include a bunch of new heroes plucked from various parts of the globe, each one packing their own unique abilities. This will be complemented by an arsenal of new weapons, outfits, extra amulet powers, and more. If that wasn’t enough to awaken your inner Dr. Jones, then Strange Brigade is set to receive a bunch of free monthly content, although Rebellion’s keeping mum on any further details right now....
