Star Wars: The Force Awakens is now 6/5 to become the highest grossing movie of all time, eclipsing the $2.76 billion record currently held by Avatar, reports William Hill. Avatar is 8/13 to retain its record. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens is one of the most anticipated movies of all time and tickets have already sold out for many early showings suggesting that it could race towards the Avatar total,” said William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly....

The end of a nine-film, three-arc saga that’s been around for more than 40 years, for some people, Star Wars – and specifically the Skywalker story – has been with them their whole lives. So it’s perhaps not surprising there’s a lot of emotion riding on JJ Abrams’ The Rise Of Skywalker. Even more so, perhaps, after some of the discourse surrounding The Last Jedi. Abrams has obviously taken that knowledge to heart, creating a film that – for better or worse – should play better with some fans than Rian Johnson’s divisive predecessor....

The PlayStation Store and Xbox Store edition of Star Wars Battlefront has been given a limited time price cut, making the regular game only £36.84 until December 26. The Deluxe Edition is down to £43.54 and the Ultimate Edition can be yours for £78.74. Battlefront’s discount appears separate to the ongoing 12 Deals of Christmas on PlayStation, which is currently offering The Elder Scrolls Online for £19.99. Xbox gamers will need a Gold membership to access the discount, but you’ll need LIVE to be able to play the game anyway....

At the end of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, a besieged General Leia reaches out to old allies for help when the Resistance is backed into a corner. While we still don’t know exactly how much time has passed between Episode VIII and Episode IX, it’s long enough that at least one classic character has reached the team: Lando Calrissian, who makes a stylish entrance in The Rise of Skywalker teaser, zooming through hyperspace on the Millennium Falcon....

More snippets of information about Star Wars Jedi Survivor are steadily being released, with the most recent of these shedding more light on combat, traversal, and a new face for the series. So when an episode occurs that just has some one-dimensional but honest emotion, a bit of self-reliant tension, and an all-out, well-executed action sequence, I consider it a win....

Tax Watch UK, an investigative think tank, has criticised the Grand Theft Auto V developer for paying no corporation tax between 2009 and 2018, all the while generating an estimated profit of £4.1 billion during that time period. Rockstar Games also has issued claims worth an estimated £42.3 million from the Video Game Tax Relief Fund between 2015 and 2017. This fund is a specific points-based test on the cultural significance of the video game, judged by the British Film Institute on factors like its setting, the location of the development process, and whether the title ‘reflects British creativity’....

Here’s a bit of news that we weren’t expecting: Dan Houser, one of the longest-serving members of staff at Rockstar, will be leaving the company next month. Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, broke the news in an official document with this statement: “After an extended break beginning in the spring of 2019, Dan Houser, Vice President, Creative at Rockstar Games, will be leaving the company. Dan Houser’s last day will be March 11, 2020....

Scalebound is back after its E3 2015 debut with a five minute gameplay trailer, and things are looking off the scale. The footage below shows off multiplayer co-op gameplay for the first time. Scalebound will launch in 2017 exclusively for Xbox One and Windows 10.

Things aren’t looking good for FaZe Clan’s market value. The organisation of esports professionals and gaming influencers began trading on Nasdaq (an American based stock exchange) last July, becoming one of only a few esports companies on the market. Sony has announced that its acquisition of Haven Studios, which Jade Raymond co-founded, is now complete. It had plans to fund an original IP from Raymond’s studio back in March, 2021. Then, in March of this year, Sony announced its plans to buy the studio outright. It’s official! The agreement to acquire Haven has closed.
