It seems that interest in the current version of Lara Croft may be waning, as physical sales of Shadow of the Tomb Raider have dropped 70% from those of the Tomb Raider reboot game that was released in 2013. Shadow of the Tomb Raider’s sales, at the time of release, were higher than those of Rise of the Tomb Raider, but that was due to the fact that Rise of the Tomb Raider was a timed exclusive for the Xbox One....

It seems like fans of the cult-classic Shenmue series will have to wait a while to see the next installment. During a special event that was celebrating the Shenmue franchise, the creator of the series, Yu Suzuki, mentioned that there are no solid plans for Shenmue IV just yet. Throughout E3, we’ve seen many impressive indie games. Among these was a sequel to Slime Rancher, an open-world exploration game released in 2017. As shown in its reveal during the Xbox E3 event, Slime Rancher 2 will follow in the footsteps of its predecessor when it releases in 2022. Sony has released a new patent for an AI that is capable of lowering or increasing the difficulty of a game based on the performance of the PS5 player. You’d have to be a pretty hardcore fan of obscure puzzle games to know this in advance, but Soul Axiom Rebooted, independent studio Wales Interactive’s most recent release, is actually a remake of 2016’s Soul Axiom, a puzzle/walking simulator experience which was met with mixed reviews. That said, after four years and a fresh coat of paint, Soul Axiom Rebooted remains a slightly perplexing title which, though potentially appealing to those who live and breath budget Switch or Steam titles, probably won’t hold the attention of the average gamer....

Announced at last night’s Nintendo Direct, Splatoon 2 is set to launch on Nintendo Switch on July 21. As well as that Nintendo revealed Salmon Run — a PvE horde-like mode where four players take on waves of enemies and attempt to collect these things called Power Eggs. There’s also a new set of Splatoon Amiibo on its way that includes a Squid, Inkling Boy, and Inkling Girl. But don’t fret, Splatoon 2 will also be compatible with the set of Amiibo from the original game....

The new year has officially begun, and Square Enix remains in a favorable position. The Final Fantasy XIV: Endwalker expansion came out early last month, and it proved so popular that Square Enix had to temporarily cease sales of the base game. Although the incredibly long queue times that led to this decision caused quite a few short-term headaches for both the playerbase and the developers, they did not diminish players’ immense degree of satisfaction with the expansion....

Marvel may have a stronghold in the film industry, but this economic dominance may not hold true for the video game world. Pathologic: The Marble Nest, a standalone game which utilises the assets, characters, and premise of the Kickstarter funded Pathologic, is now available to download for free, Ice-Pick Lodge has announced. The core Pathologic game sees players take on the role of one of the three different healers who are trying to stop an outbreak of a deadly plague. Electronic Arts has revealed the obvious: Star Wars Battlefront II didn’t sell as well as they had hoped. While this isn’t surprising considering all the hullabaloo over the game’s controversial microtransactions, we now know the game has officially underperformed. Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, EA exec Blake Jorgensen revealed that Battlefront II shipped nine million copies during its launch quarter, which is down heavily on the 13 million shifted by its predecessor back in 2015....

Rogue One: Scarif, the fourth and final DLC for Star Wars Battlefront, will launch for Season Pass owners on December 6, EA has announced. That’s ten days before you all go and see Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in cinemas on December 16. The new DLC features four new maps, including beaches of the tropical planet Scarif. You also get two new heroes – Jyn Erso and Orson Krennic – plus a new multi-stage game mode with space and ground combat....
